Swim
Comments: I completely tanked the swim...felt like I couldn't breathe and like I'd forgotten how to swim. I'm assuming it was from needing to put my face in the cold (65F) water. Did a lot of side stroke and elementary back stroke before I finally manage to pull it together and FS most of the final 250m. What would you do differently?: Pick a triathlon with warmer water! I need tons more OWS practice! Transition 1
Comments: running out from the water I started pulling off the wetsuit but was having trouble getting my arms out. Turned out that I hadn't pull the zipper down all the way. no problem finding my bike and stuff. feet stuck in suit. socks were dry and went on pretty easily. muddy run out of transition. What would you do differently?: get out of the wetsuit faster! Bike
Comments: I rocked the ride! Didn't like getting caught in the rooster tail spray from the other bikes! I had "Hill Slug" written on my left calf (hoping a BTer would recognize the name and say "hi"). One woman got up pretty close to me on the ride and said "You're no Hill Slug. You're rockin these hills!" I thanked her...and then dropped her! What would you do differently?: wear my glasses to protect my eyes from road spray. Transition 2
Comments: I had my running shoes under a piece of tarp so they were pretty dry when I grabbed them, but my socks were completely soaked. On the way out of transition I was running through mud so my shoes were also soaked before I even started the official run. What would you do differently?: no rain? Run
Comments: Overall, the run went pretty well...first triathlon where I actually ran the whole run! Unfortunately, I hit the wrong button on the Garmin so it stopped timing coming out of transition. I managed to figure out what was happening and get it recording a little way in, but missed about 0.5 miles. Probably lost some time on the run while I was futzing with this. My time for the last ~2.6 miles was ~26min. I was hoping to bring it in under 10min/mile and will be really close. What would you do differently?: dry shoes? run a bit faster. Post race
Warm down: did some walking. ate two orange sections and 1/3 banana. Packed up transition. What limited your ability to perform faster: poor OWS! a little trouble getting out of the wetsuit. weather Event comments: I think the water was just too cold for me to perform well. Not sure if I'd repeat this race. Funniest thing I heard: on the run "I think I'm getting swimmer's ear." Funniest thing I saw: a mile or so into the run: a woman running around a puddle. As if that mattered by then! Last updated: 2008-01-04 12:00 AM

up at 6am. Breakfast of cereal, banana, and smoothie. My stomach barely wanted all of this. Got dressed. Packed up car. Drive 1 hour to race site. On way ate another banana and a few sips of Accelerade (my stomach definitely didn't want the Accelerade). Arrived about 8:30...raining. Picked up race packet, t-shirt and socks. Next tent for the timing chip. Third tent for body marking. Back to car to get bike ready and bring stuff to transition.
Setting up transition. Trying to keep everything dry. Got on the wetsuit and booties and headed down to the beach. Got wet, took a few strokes. Cold! Hung out until my wave (8th and last) went off.
