Pre-race routine:

As pre other races, I was out drinking and playing poker all night with some friends until the wee hours. Kari also crammed about 20 liters of water into me all day Saturday...I was VERY well hydrated this time..
Event warmup:

Got to the race early to get a good spot on the rack...seems like everyone else had the same plan. Warm up consisted of downing a big ol' coffee...yummy...caffiene! Oh yah, I pee'd a whole bunch of times, not too sure why!
Swim
  • 30m 8s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

This was my best swim yet! I felt so powerful and fluid, the only bad thing was the suckers infront of me that held me up! I was on them by the second lane and had to stay there for most of the race! At the end of the first 800 meters, you get out and run back to the begining and do the last 700 , I managed to pass 2 guys on the pool deck and cannonballed into the lane. I finally had had enough at 1000 meters and started to pass. It took a lot of energy but I thought I was going to slow and was dying to get moving. I passed 3 guys in front of me (including the one holding us all up) and took off. I finished the 1500, looked at my watch and was blown away to see the 30 minutes sitting there! Some friends in the crowd were yelling at me and cheering so I did a little piroette and a couple of other little dance moves, I don't really know why, seemed like a good idea I suppose...
What would you do differently?:

Seed myself further up in the swim group. I think I am confident enough now that I can go forward and hold people up
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Not too sure about the time, no timing mats but it seemed fast, everything was a bit damp due to a bit of rain, made the gloves and arm warmers a bit tricky to get on
Bike
  • 1h 10m 31s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Again in true Chris style, I forgot to fill up my Aero bottle leaving only one bottle of Gatorade on the frame. I stopped acouple of times at the aid stations but still not enough fluids in for the race. Dummy. I was a bit slow on the hills I thought as I lost a lot of energy hammering on the pedals...old habits and all that. Two guys on bikes that looked like fighter jets tried to pass me at one point, I shut the door on both of them. I thought. I looked behind me and the jerks were drafting off of me. I thought about hitting the brakes for just a second. I endded up losing them on the next hill and just could not catch up to them, I used up way to much power chasing them...idiot.
What would you do differently?:

Need some more hill training I think. Not the mountains, just the long slow risers. They seem to hurt me the most.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Great transistion, bit longer than I wanted but everything flowed alright.
What would you do differently?:

Been a few months since a race / transistion...get off my back huh!?!?
Run
  • 47m 50s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

I mentioned a few days ago that I got a new seat for my bike...I also got a few trweaks to my bit fit...dummmy. I had shin splints in the first 2 K's so bad I thought my shins were going to EXPLODE! Burn baby burn!! No real cramps in the hamstrings so that was the biggest thing for me. Run was alright but I was way slower than I wanted to be. Never stopped running but my pace REALLY dropped near the end. Thank god for the guy that yelled at me to pick it up "100 meters to go dude!!! SPRINT IT OUT!!" I did.
What would you do differently?:

Just need some more work on the cardio and maybe a bit more strength training. Better get it ear, got a marathon looming in the distance!
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a bunch of the PowerBar recharge shakes. Those things are AWESOME! And they were FREE! Know what's really good? One of those shakes with some Kalua! Rocking!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Gravity. If there was no gravity on earth I would move a lot faster. What a dumb question!! What the hell do you think affected my preformance?!?!? The fact I was out drinking and playing cards all night? Day light savings happening 7 hours prior to me jumping into the pool? I'm riding a bike without a motor? I'm out of shape, I dunno, take you pick!!!!!!

Event comments:

Liked this race, not too sure about the pool swim format, but will likely try the same race next year. Was a lot of fun! Any time there are people amassed wearing tight fitting clothing is a good time!
