Run
Comments: As I just started doing some very small amounts of speed work I don't expect to be close to my PB. My goals have fun; be moment focused; accept that challenging efforts hurt some; keep positive before and during the race; feel I did my best & accept how it turns out. Start and it was a bit congested but thinned out. I had my HRM time taped over but could see my HR. Often when I race I have chatter in my head. Today I had no thoughts really just focused on what I was doing now. I ran, it hurt, it was hard, I kept running. Mile 1 had someone yelling out the time...9:11 I was happily surprised. I had guessed that I'd be between 29-31 minutes..so that works math wise. Mile 2 I actually passed 4 people; got pretty hot so unzipped jacket and top and took off my hat Mile 3 It was windy again blowing in on us; but nice part is we went over same part as mile 1 so I knew where I was relatively. One person passed me she turned out to be in my AG, & I passed some folks. I continued to push as hard as I could, but was starting to breath louder and louder. I got to the place where my asthma really kicks in and I just can't push any more. No sneaking up on passing folks for me. One negative thought I did have was instead of hurting for this run I could have been doing 50 miles on the Cape with friends..hmmm. What would you do differently?: Nothing...have only run 10 weeks since being off 7 weeks. I was mentally in the moment, had no negative thoughts other than this hurts, and was happy how I did. I do want to get faster and hope to PR a 5K this year.. First 2 miles pace was similar dropped off 3rd mile. Hope my next 5K in two weeks I can be a little more consistent and have all the miles sub 10's. Post race
Warm down: Ended up 24 out of 67 women..now that rocks~ Took about 4-5' to find my Iron Sherpa Kevin and about 3' to stop wheezing. I did get stretched and had a massage. Massage women said she thinks my sore hamstrings are from my piriformis being so tight. On my right side my other muscles guard it as it is tender. Ate and drank post race food all healthy stuff. What limited your ability to perform faster: Surgery in October, just starting running 10 weeks ago, no speed work for 13 months due to injuries. Exercise induced asthma I was wheezing really badly & loudly last mile and about 3 minutes after I finished. My last 5K I was 32 seconds faster when I had been healthy so this was good. Overall I'm very pleased that I pushed as hard as I could, embraced the challenging effort level, and thought of nothing just ran so no negative self talk..only neutral or positive. First 5K I did 10/16/2005 00:34:53 | 03.1 miles | 11m 15s min/mile Event comments: Fun race close to home. They do both a 10 mile race which is much larger and a 5K. Last updated: 2008-01-17 12:00 AM

Race start of 11 am rocks meaning sleeping in having breakfast, digesting it, and it is a little bit warmer. Kevin came with to support me. This race is 1 mile from where my kids go to school.
20' before race start, I did my standard run loosener things..circles both ways w/each foot, kick legs up straight and bent, hoping around, walking on all edges of my feet..it is weird but works. Then I did 4x15" of good form fast running; then ran about 7-8 minutes at which time I felt pretty crappy. Only two stops at the indoor restrooms before race.
