Swim
Comments: The swim was much better than last year. Going out was the toughest part. Had to swim around a few people and i went off course a little bit. I hit open water and found a groove on the backside. I felt like i was gliding along pretty well at about 80% exertion. Got tangled up with someone on the last 50 in to shore, so i kicked in the high gear to get clear of them. What would you do differently?: Start on the outside. For some reason I started on the inside b/c I thought it would be faster. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit got stuck on my heel. No biggie. Everything else went pretty smooth. I wish I could race without socks, b/c its always hard to put socks on. I fumbled a little getting clipped in and getting going on the bike. What would you do differently?: Train to race without socks. Practice mounting the bike. Bike
Comments: Felt pretty good on the bike. Just got some clip on aerobars a few days prior, but I felt comfortable using them. I did dial it back just a bit at about mile 8 b/c I wanted to save some legs for the run. What would you do differently?: Not much. Just get stronger on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: I forgot to leave my shoes tied after my warmups, so I had to retie them in T2. That was a waste of time. Other than that, T2 went smoothly. What would you do differently?: Keep running shoes tied. Better yet, get some yankz. Run
Comments: If there was a part of my race I was disappointed it, it was my run. I felt like I gave it near 100%, so I'm happy with the effort. But I am disappointed that all I could muster was a 25m 5k. I thought I was going to be faster than that. Oh well. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on running. Incorporate more bricks in training. My heartrate was sky high starting the run and never really came down. I think I hit 184 at one point. I'm used to being in the high 150's and low 160's. Warm down: Grabbed a bottle of water, talked with the family for a little bit, grabbed 5 or 6 oreos and did some light stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Endurance. Got up at 6:00. Ate a granola bar and had some accelerade. Drank half a rockstar on the way to the race. Got there a little before 7. Set up transition area and started warming up.
Ran one loop around the lake. Put on wetsuit and swam a few hundred yards. I made a point to really work during my swim warmup b/c last year i didn't warm up very good, started out too hard, and was gassed by the first turn.
