Swim
Comments: I had a pre race plan in my head to go out hard and sight the palm tree on the pier. That went according to plan but I feel as though I could have pushed more as my overall rank/time was not expected. I did swim a lot furter to bypass the mass chaos; i think this was the best idea as it was confusion after the first turn and i did not run into anyone until late 1000m What would you do differently?: I would push harder, get into the mix with someone fast and stay on their heel allowing them to pull as i drafted off them. Transition 1
Comments: I could not find my bike!!! luckily I saw my gold running shoes and was then able to get into my routine but i burned about 30s just trying to look for it. The field in which out bikes were staged was sandy and did not allow for the cleanest of transitions so i used a bucket for the first time (thanks days inn)! What would you do differently?: I would stay focused and develope a plan as to coming in to locate my bike. However, 4000 bikes is a lot and it feels overwhelming. I would also get a lager towel and then REMEMBER TO BUCKLE MY HELMET! Bike
Comments: I felt great! kept passing people! Did not stop the cadence or the effort. It wasn't too hard but it wasnt too light! I felt GREAT!!! I kept myself motivated and the spirit high as the sun was beginning to shine brighter and stage a very hot/humid run. I only allowed 2 people to pass me and one i caught and then took him over in about a 3 mile section. What would you do differently?: I would drink more. Attach anoter water bottle and bring gu's! I did not properly prepare my "machine" for the run and definetly felt that going into the 3rd mile. Transition 2
Comments: still had a problem finding my shoes and where to rack my bike. I came in hot and skid'ed on the cobble stone. My bike was staged at the far end of the transition which made it tougher for me to navigate swimmers coming in and bikers leavign the transition. I felt as though i moved in and out well giving the above circumstances and think i could have used a bit more baby powder in my shoes. What would you do differently?: I would run faster to my spot, find the spoit faster and get a good lat gulp of cytomax before going into the run. Run
Comments: Felt good, shoes were worn for the first time in a race or even for a long run! I got too much water on me and into my shoes to make my feet uncomfortable. The run was very flat, and hot but a nice out and back where we knew the distance and location of our final stretch. Plenty of volunteers on the route but wayyyy to many people in my way as i could not run to a cup and then run out....people would walk afte they got their cup and stay right "in the line of fire"!!! What would you do differently?: I would focus more. Use my mind to outwork my body with positive thoughts! I did not allow myself to push it to the limit and what felt like giving in to the pain. I WILL NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN!!! At the turn around i saw i had 19minutes left to keep it under 2.10min overall time (my goal) and i just felt as though i had nothing in the tank. I did give a good kick at the end which made it that much better but I needed more in the tank on the turn around to put some time back on the clock. Overall I am happy, i was just under 2minutes away from my goal time and right in the mix with an elite field! Post race
Warm down: a GREAT MASSAGE!!! PIZZA, ORANGES, COLA, BANANA AND BEER, BEER, BEER, AND MORE BEER!!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: not much practice in the heat and not being able to handle that SOB that is inside my head saying i am tired. I will ruin that person next time.....i own tired, i make the payments, i put in the time I SAY WHEN IS WHEN NOT MY MIND. Event comments: THE BEST RACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! IT FELT LIKE A NOTC EVENT BACK IN NEW ORLEANS BUT WITH 4000 PEOPLE AND SO MUCH FOOD, FUN, SUN, AND BEER. THE ENTIRE WEEKEND WAS AMAZING WITH THE CTC TEAM AND WE ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE. Age Group Rank = 9/115
Woke up early to beat the crowd and find a parking spot as mentioned by those who competed in years prior. I made my way out the Days Inn by 4:45am and was on the race course by 5:25 getting my number on. I got a great night sleep which also included a nap mid day (after the falcons draft pick).
I did a mile and half warm up with some short bursts of strides out on the run course. I stopped at a turn to view the sun just about to rise over the atlantic, take a moment to let it all sinnk in and get into a stretching routine. The whole time listening to my Ipod playlist.
