Pre-race routine:

Woke up at the butt crack of dawn. oh wait it wasn't even dawn yet. Got up at 2:30am. Got dressed and got my stuff together. headed to the mall to catch the 3:30am bus for the hour or so long drive to Narragansett from Providence. Got on the first bus. Ate my breakfast on the way. Got to T1 and finished getting my stuff setup and ready. Went for a little walk. found a bathroom. sat down on the beach for a little. As race neared, made it back to transition to do my event warm-up.
Event warmup:

did my prehab and stretches prior to putting wetsuit on. sipped on some water and gatorade as well. Got in my wetsuit and waited about an hour til my wave went off.
Swim
  • 33m 34s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

actually drafted for a little off someone which is usually rare for me as I hate being near people when I swim.
What would you do differently?:

maybe try to push a little more. feel like i have been swimming with less intensity this year.
Transition 1
  • 04m 1s
Comments:

little bit of a run up the beach into T1. hadd wetsuit strippers which helped a lot and mine were great.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 2h 52m 58s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.43 mile/hr
Comments:

felt good. push was comfortable but definitely noticed I was working. may have been able to push harder but really tried to stay in training zones for power, which I feel I did well at.
ejected a full bottle around halfway point but did not run out of nutrition.
ate 1 gel, 3 mini clif bars and one bottle of cytomax.
What would you do differently?:

maybe drink a little more.
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

good transition. a little long as far as where you came in to where you went out.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 2h 02m 30s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Federal hill sucked!!!! ran it the first time but the second time I was starting to get a stomach cramp and my calves were tightening up. ice in hat helped a lot with the heat. didn't really need the sponge with the ice in the hat. drink was good. alternated gatorade and water. only walked on the hills on the second loop and not the whole time. Also stopped for ice in my hat when it was melted and to stretch my claves once as they were tightening up.
What would you do differently?:

try to hold my pacinng a little better and run the whole time but feel i did weell with the heat of the day.
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed lots of liquid, pizza and ice bag. sat under tree. stretched and cooled down while I ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heat. my mental ability to push myself as I probably could have raced the run a little faster than i did.
