Swim
Comments: BANG...gun goes off and I purposely wait 10 seconds. Waited for the go fasters to get a jump and then hit the surf. My surfing background really helped with comfort in the water and what to expect by choppy conditions (it was a little choppy). Really nice and comfortable swim. I did not crush it but I felt as if I could swim all day. The only thing that bothered me was that my goggles failed. Had to clear water more than a few times. Great swim for me. I figured on at least 45 minutes in the water...38 minutes was definately a happy thing for me to see. What would you do differently?: Gone with my backup goggles. Transition 1
Comments: Good as can be expected! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: This was the third time I rode this course so I knew what to expect along the whole route. Starting out was pretty good. No mechanical problems at all. Rt 102 hills still suck as does the hill at Scituate Ave. Although I got passed by just about everyone, this was the fastest I have rode this course by about 20 minutes. I did pass a number of people going through Providence only because of my familiarity with the roads. Can't complain here! What would you do differently?: Weight...I am too freaking heavy for my own good! Transition 2
Comments: Nice and easy. Executed my plan. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Run
Comments: OK this sucked! I knew from the time I started training that my run would be long and painful. Again, I am taking too much extra poundage with me and that has always been a problem post bike. No matter how slow I went on the bike, I knew I would be slow on the run. My format was to run to the aid stations and walk through and for about a minute after. No problems with that... Hdyration was good. I could have probably packed on more calories early in the run. Calf muscles cramped a little but nothing that stopped me in my tracks. I walked College Hill (x2)...there would be NO running up that hill! Chatted with a bunch of people. Everyone had a great attitude! My family was amazing! They were out there with the yellow tee shirts screaming and yelling to keep it up. They really kept a smile on my face the whole time. With about 1/2 mile to go, wifey starting jogging with me and reciting lines from the movie 300 (we watched it the night before)...AWESOME! Ran it in to the finish line and high fived everyone in the finish chute...again AWESOME! What would you do differently?: Aside from attaching a rocket motor to my a$$ I do not think I could have done much different. Post race
Warm down: MW showed up with COLD Coors Light!! THAT WAS THE BEST WARM DOWN EVER! What limited your ability to perform faster: Need I say more...weight. Event comments: IM does an amazing job. The atmosphere was incredible and everything was well planned and executed. I will be back next year! Last updated: 2008-03-07 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:30. Balance Bar and Bananna with water for pre-race food. Got to the start at about 4:30. T1 was nice and active. Hung out with wifey and my family (by far the biggest cheering section on the course...you could not miss them in the yellow t-shirts).
Did a lot of stretching and just jumped in a got wet. The first 100 yards of the swim was pretty much my warm-up.
