![]() Swim
Comments: This was my longest OW swim in a race and probably the longest distance I ever swam so I just wanted to swim realy easy. I felt comfortable the whole way. Yes, I quickly got dropped by my wave and most in the wave after, but I'm still pretty satisfied. Now it's time to work on getting stronger and faster. What would you do differently?: Forgot to start my watch and had to turn it on about half way to the first bouy. That's pretty much where I got dropped by my wave. Maybe, I could of waited for the next wave to come and drafted more. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I decided not to wear my tri top in the swim. It felt like it took me a whole minute to put on a dry tri top on a wet body. This being my longest swim, I didn't want the tightness of wearing the tri top to be in my head. I realize now though I should be totally fine wearing one. What would you do differently?: Swim with my tri top on. ![]() Bike
Comments: Still getting used to riding aero but felt good in general. What was more difficult was taking in gel and Endurolyte pills even while sitting up... the tri bike geometry is just so squirrely compared to my road bike. I took in a gel and Endurolyte within the first 10 minutes and same towards the end. Ran out of water from my aero bottle and the Accelerade in my water bottle was too concentrated. Really got pumped whenever I passed people in my wave or the wave after mine. What would you do differently?: I should of took some water from the aid stations to refill my aero bottle. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: There was a cluster-f@8k at the timing mat and entrance to transition so even if I jumped off my bike it wouldn't of mattered. When I got to my spot everything went well. I decided to wear socks and those went on very easily and I'm glad I decided to wear them. ![]() Run
Comments: Walked through first water station to get water and Powerade. I should work on running while drinking. Skipped the water stop at mile 3 but began to cramp in the quads shortly after that. Last mile felt very long but still had good kick in the last straightaway. What would you do differently?: Drink more, even up to the halfway point. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Stood in line for a chili dog, oranges, half cup of beer and diet Pepsi. Stretch a little at the table. Rode back to the car (3 miles) about an hour and a half after my race was done. What limited your ability to perform faster: Slow swimming and bad T1. Event comments: Great race for being so low key and relatively inexpensive. Very good for a first time international/olympic distance(easy swim). Last updated: 2008-03-19 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5AM. Had 1 cup of water with an Endurolyte capsule, bagel with peanut butter and cup of coffee. Good B.M. Warm shower and applied sunscreen and chamois cream.
I parked at Glorietta Bay park and rode down about 4 miles to the start. Set up my transition area, watched some of the Superfrog starts and scoped out the Superseal swim course. Body Glide on the neck, calves, arms and shoulders.
