Swim
Comments: I ran from the Swimming Start Line and jumped into the water in the left side of the peloton, to avoid all the crowd that usually is in the middle. It was a good beginning...I got in the 1st bouy with the first peloton of women, but a little far not to close of it when we turn around to the right...and from there to the 2nd and 3rd one was a good swim even we had not strong currents against us...I kept my pace...never stopped...from the 3rd bouy was more easy, we had the waves with us...helped a lot...pushing us...like we were swimming more fast... even the waves I started to push more harder till I got almost out of the water....and run to the transition area... I don't have the overall rank in the swimming...that information is not in the results... What would you do differently?: Keep my rythm of training...I know I'm doing better and better every time that I have a race.... Transition 1
Comments: When I got to the transition area...for my surprise, in the rack area where my Age Group and I had our bikes...there were a bunch of bikes...it was full...that means...that I did an excellent swimm...and I started to hurry to take advantage of that... I could do a better performance in the transition, I'm usually one of the fastest in my Age Group...but...my right side of my handle bar got stuck with the chain of the bike that was in my right side...that bike was in the opposite position of mine...grrrrr!!! when I finally got my bike out...I ran as fast as I could till the area where we were allowed to mount our bikes... What would you do differently?: It's difficult to avoid that kind of factors that affected my performance...you never know when it would happen to you... Bike
Comments: The Organizers mentioned that the bike course would be a little more longer 18.7 miles but it was 19 miles according with my cyclocomputer. I did an excellent bike ride even the 2 challenges that we had in this bike course: 4 bridges to climb twice each one, strong winds coming from NW at 10 to 15 mph (headwinds/crosswinds/tailwinds)... I kept a good average of 17.5 mph and the maximum was 32 mph when I was going down hill from the bridges... What would you do differently?: Continue with my bike training....I'm getting better and better... Transition 2
Comments: I know I could do a better performance in the 2nd transition, I'm usually one of the fastest in my Age Group...but when I got in the area of my Age Group rack...there were 3 person blocking my way...grrrr!!! why these people were there??? I took off my biking shoes and put my running shoes like usual...very fast...but...I don't know why I didn't run out of the transition area and at the same time buckling my fuel belt with my bid number like usual... I lost time trying to buckle before going out of the transition area...it was my own mistake...It won't happen again... What would you do differently?: To run out of the transition area and at the same time buckling my belt with my bid number... Practice and practice... Run
Comments: It was a good run...I kept a good pace...till I got in the U-turn in the mile 2, when I found I guy (Age Group 40-44) with an excellent pace...and...I kept behind him...following him...like drafting...he was my tempo...I kept behind him till the finish line...man...nobody can't imagine how he helped me...if he started to push more I was pusing more but at his same pace...it was a wonderful run!!! that my good friend and eternal rival couildn't reach me, she usually reaches me and passes me in the last yards before the finish line but for only seconds...but not this time...I beated her for only 1 minute and 16 seconds...Yes!!!! What would you do differently?: Continue with my run training...I'm getting better and better Post race
Warm down: I kept walking and walking, stretching my legs till I felt recovered... but one thing disappointed me, I couldn't find a bottle of water when I pass the Finish Line...I was thirsty!!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: None Event comments: I only have a suggestion for the Organizers: To post the results by Age Groups, it's more easy for us to find out how we did... We woke-up at 4:15 am, took breakfast: first my smoothie (strawberries), then OJ, and a small bowl of macaroni & cheese and my usual pack of multivitamines and minerals, Amino 1000, Glucosamine and Q-10...I prepared a Soy Protein shake (chocolate) that I did drink it in the car in our way to the race exactly at 5:15 am, 2 hours before the race...
All our stuff and bikes were already in the car the night before the race...we only needed to put our small coolers with our beverages...
We left from home at 4:45 am and got in the area of South Beach around 5:36 am in the Parking lot at 7th Street/Collins Av.
We walked with our bikes and stuff 2 blocks till we got to the transition area...and We placed our bikes and stuff in our respective places...I placed my bike in the rack and prepared all my stuff: biking/running shoes/hat and my fuel belt with my bid number under the bike in the grass, helmet and sunglases over the bike seat and the AeroDrink bottle in the bracket in my AeroBars...then I got my swimming cap/googles, wax ear-plugs, my energy gels (2) and water/accelerade and went out the transition area with-out the wet-suit around 6:45 am, they announced that the temperature of the water was in 78.2oF...Damn!!! NO wet-suits allowed.
We went to the beach where we had a meeting at 7 am where the Organizers would give us the last intructions and they announced again thet wet-suits were not allowed, the temperature of water was in 78.2oF, that the distance in the bike course was almost 19 miles (18.7 miles) instead the 18 miles...There I was taking my 2 Hammer Energy Gel with water/accelerade...when they finished with all the instruction...We headed to the area of the Swimming Srart...
I started to stretch my arms and legs before jump into the water...
The first wave started in time at 7:15 am, my wave was the 6th one (purple caps)...
I did swim about 200 mts. and got out of the water waiting till my wave started at 7:40 am...
