Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30. 1/2 banana with grape nuts crunch coating. 1 1/2 cups of tea. Water. Breathe!
Event warmup:

A couple of sun salutations. Stretch. Light jog. Shoulder exercises.
Swim
  • 14m 42s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not being able to see anything underwater kind of freaked me out. I didn't panic, but I had a very hard time swimming with my head down. So my swim pretty much sucked, but it was my first time and you live and learn!
What would you do differently?:

Just put my head down and swim and visualize not being able to see underwater somehow?? Do some OWS or swimming with eyes closed.
Transition 1
  • 04m 15s
Comments:

Not bad for the first time ever doing this. Might try no sock or other socks in bike shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Just hustle a little more.
Bike
  • 48m 3s
  • 14 miles
  • 17.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Loved the bike ride. Felt good and passed quite a few people. I've got a nice bike!
What would you do differently?:

Would push harder and stay in higher gears more.
Transition 2
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

I don't remember much of this. I was on auto pilot.I do remember running out of transition and thinking -- this isn't so bad at all.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not put run shorts over bike shorts.
Run
  • 26m 1s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty strong and got into a rhythm, but when I hit the sand about 1/4 of a mile to go, my right calf cramped and I continued running, but slowed down considerably. I was still happy with my time. My fastest 5K yet.
What would you do differently?:

Picked up the pace more in the middle.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, iced, walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My right calf cramping at the end of the run.

Event comments:

My first tri but I thought it was very well organized and on-time, good volunteers. A really great first experience.
