Pre-race routine:

Arrived in plenty of time, went to the update meeting; set up transition area at bike racks.
Event warmup:

2 laps in pool - race was 15 min. ahead of schedule, so no time for good warm up!
Swim
  • 11m 45s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

a bit more tiring than what I was used to. athlete in front of me kept almost identical pace, so I was not quite fast enough to pass, but was right on her tail the whole way.
What would you do differently?:

Watched the video my husband took. I picked my head up out of the water way too high when I took a breath. I didn't keep my head down enough...I was distracted.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Went off without a hitch. I was pretty pleased for my first time.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a bigger towel!!
Bike
  • 1h 01m 24s
  • 13.7 miles
  • 13.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Too much jacking around with gel/water. I would skip gel next time. Course had lots of hills and turns, challenging.
What would you do differently?:

Double check that my laces were tucked in my shoes. At start of race, my lace caught in the chain and I had to stop to re-tuck. Perhaps next time I will wear different shoes for the bike and switch in T2
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Wow, I did not expect to be numb from mid-thigh down! I was warned, but still surprised! It took a few hundred yards before I could feel my feet.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my shoes were tied comfortably before I headed out for the run.
Run
  • 36m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Type of run much different than expected. I did not know so much was going to be trails. I was very tired, but enjoyed the run anyway. Walked a few times for 20-30sec. I can only assume my time was affected greatly by running on trails vs. road, though I haven't ever done a tri with a road run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I definitely need to practice bike to run bricks!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around...recovered quickly and felt good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just not knowing what to expect.

Event comments:

I am pleased with my first tri results. I am happy that I finished in under 2 hrs. I learned alot and know what to shoot for in my next race in June. This was a great event. The course was very well marked out and very pleasant. I would definitely recommed this to anyone in the area!!
