Swim
Comments: First attempt at navigation of OWS didn't go as well as it could have. Swam about 50 yards off the course, but got back on and did fine. What would you do differently?: Body Glide on my neck where the wetsuit rubbed. Transition 1
Comments: My legs were pretty shaky after the swim and the run up the beach. But everything went fairly smooth. What would you do differently?: I might sit down just to give my legs a break, or possibly in the future (with new shoes and pedals) consider trying the rolling-jump-on technique, but with my setup the way it is now that could be dangerous. Bike
Comments: The bike was going extremely well for me, well I guess it went extremely well overall. I was really happy with how I was riding, staying in the tri bars most of the time. Made the turn around and headed back. About 11 miles into it when I was changing from the middle chain ring to the outer chain ring the chain jumped off and I had to stop to fix it. Lost some time I would rather not have there, but came back with focus and determination. I had some issues with leg cramps when I had to get off to fix the chain, but was able to get back on and continue. What would you do differently?: Not a whole lot. Obviously train more in hills so that they don't wear me out as much, and work on staying in the tribars more. I'd like to get an aerodrink so that I don't have to stop pedaling to grab a water bottle. Transition 2
Comments: Broke another one of the cheap speed lace things that everyone sells around here. I've got to get something that will hold together for more than one pull. Legs felt decent on the way out of the trans area. What would you do differently?: Better speed laces. Figure out a way to rack my bike since I can't hook the seat on the bar and if I use the brake levers I'm worried someone will either bump it and bend a lever or knock it off. Run
Comments: I really thought I did better than this. My running is still really slow, mostly because I'm worried about wearing myself out before the end. Still had too much energy left because I was able to put on a good sprint to the finish. What would you do differently?: Run harder? I mean, there isn't much more to be said about that is there. Post race
Warm down: Walked for a few minutes trying to get my legs back under me. Had the volunteers from the Palmer College of Chiropractic adjust my back and neck to get rid of some stiffness I had there. What limited your ability to perform faster: Running, swimming, and weak transitions. Mechanical issue on the bike, which was mostly a non-issue. Event comments: I thought it was a really well done race. My biggest complaint would have been all the mud we had to run through, but how often do we really have to plan for as much rain as we've had. Race bag had lots of nice stuff. Volunteers were friendly and helpful. Not much more I could ask for except a better performance from myself. Last updated: 2008-04-27 12:00 AM

Woke up, drank some green tea, ate breakfast (yogurt, cliff bar, 2x gu's, and water). Threw the bags in the car and drove to the race. Got there early enough, got my spot on the rack and put everything together.
Swam the length of the beach once just to get a feel for the water and the wetsuit.
