Swim
Comments: Good swim for me. As usual I felt uncomfortable for the first few hundred yards. Once I rounded the first buoy my rythym was good and there was little traffic. I passed a lot of people. Rounding the final buoy there were no other yellow caps in sight, only green from the previous wave. I was worried that I missed a buoy or something but i guess the faster swimmers were way ahead and the others were way behind. What would you do differently?: Better navigation. I felt like I kept veering to the right. Transition 1
Comments: Was worried about my wetsuit coming off since the strap and zipper piece had come off before the start. It came off fine except my legs were tired and I had trouble getting the suit off my ankles. What would you do differently?: More PAM. Bike
Comments: Good ride. My goal was 20 mph and just missed it by 47 seconds. I felt slow and sluggish for the first 5 miles then got into a better rythym. A couple of riders passed me during the course of the ride and then settled into the same pace as me. I didn't want to get caught drafting and passed all of them so they would have to worry about me. What would you do differently?: More speed training. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Coming out of the chute Sharon yelled that my niece had her baby and I got all excited, choked up, etc. It was a big surprise becuase she was several weeks early I started running too fast and was soon out of breath. Managed to get on the right pace and concentrate on the race but it was tough. I felt strong at first but by mile 2 was tired and slowed a bit. After the turn around I felt like I picked up the pace a little and by mile 5 thought I had a chance at breaking my 2:45 race goal. However, I couldn't pick up the pace enough. Missed it by 2:37 but was happy anyway. What would you do differently?: More training bricks with longer runs. Post race
Warm down: Walk around. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training program. Event comments: Very organized event. Great race, great post race food. Free beer!! Last updated: 2008-04-28 12:00 AM

On Saturday dropped bike off. Let a little air out of the tires and the rear tire valve was leaking. I was really pissed since I debated all week whether or not to change it out. Stupid me didn't. They wouldn't let me take the bike out of the transition area so I ran back to the room about 1/2 mile, got a spare and took Sharon's bike back. Took a few minutes to change it and everything was fine.
Sunday morning set up transition area early and went back to room and rest until swim wave start. Went down to the beach at 7:30 for 8:15 start.
Short jog and mild stretching.
