Swim
Comments: The course was quite wide, which meant there was little kicking/elbowing, but also meant I could wander quite a bit. I wasn't used to the current and couldn't sight very well, because there was only one buoy for the first part of the race. I ended up sighting on all the blue caps ahead of me. I know I swam lots farther than the distance because of zig-zagging. However, I never panicked, so I did crawl the whole way and caught my rhythm several times. The 350 yard jog to the TA was very annoying, both because of the distance and the asphalt was painful on my feet! What would you do differently?: Swim it before the event. Transition 1
Comments: Struggled with the socks and that slowed me down. Also, my bike was all the way opposite the bike out, so I had to run a long way in the bike shoes. What would you do differently?: Maybe sockless? Bike
Comments: I do not understand how a loop course can have a headwind the entire way!!! But it was rough going the whole way. Transition 2
Comments: Again, a long run in bike shoes, but the actual time to switch out footwear and pick up my stuff was good. Run
Comments: Did 4:1, then 3:30s. Saw a gal with a 56 on her leg and passed her and kept in front of her... What would you do differently?: Train for speed, too, not just distance. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, ate a brownie and a muffin. Looked for Reno. What limited your ability to perform faster: Tight legs--I got a massage the day before, but it wasn't very good. Event comments: The bike and run courses were not marked at all with mile markers, and the swim had only a couple of buoys, so it was hard to tell where I was along the way. It was a good race overall, but not worth the 7.5 hour drive, except for going with Reno and seeing Rebecca. Last updated: 2008-05-27 12:00 AM

Ate some bread with peanut butter and 1/2 banana at 4:30 am. Reno and I drove over to the TA and set up. Body marking, chip pickup, portapotty. Took a shuttle over to the swim start. It was very chilly, but they gave us bags to put our warm clothes in, so we could keep them on until the last minute.
The water was warm, so I got in and tread water for about 8 minutes. That actually got me settled down so I wasn't nervous for the swim start.
