Swim
Comments: For a 1/3 mile swim I thought I did really well. Just kept my pace and focused on breathing and not to kick too much. Swallowed some water a couple of times becuase I wasn't used to the little chop there was. Also tried to draft but I kept following people who were slower. I have a goggles problem when wearing a swimcap and had to stop 3 times to get water out of the right goggle. What would you do differently?: Figure out my goggle situation. Focus on stroke when wide open. Get some speed. Transition 1
Comments: Got out of the water at a good pace, wasn't too dizzy. Almost forgot helmet and almost put on wrong shoes. What would you do differently?: Maybe should have ran faster and sped up overall. But, I wasn't there to really race. Bike
Comments: My main goal was to not cramp up - I accomplished that. Was able to take the hills faster than I thought. Focused on pedaling technique and staying within fitness level. Started a little slower, got up to speed, and near the end I spun the legs out and stretched for about 30 seconds. What would you do differently?: Almost nothing. Work on fitness and speed. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Not chit chat as much. Again, not "racing" just experiencing. Still, I should work on quicker times. Run
Comments: Took the 4-5 min run/1 min walk approach. Though I felt like I had the energy to keep running I still didn't want to get overheated or spike my HR. Though I noticed my RPE seemed lower in this rate even though the hill took a lot out of me. What would you do differently?: Walk faster, not stop as much. Try to power through the run instead of worrying about running out of gas. Post race
Warm down: Jog to bathroom! Oranges, cookie, water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Staying within my fitness level. Event comments: A nice small event that is part of the Badger State Games. Wish the transition area was in parking lot instead of grass. Nice long finishing chute. Longer than normal swim in a quarry. Short but hilly bike course. Average run course. Coming a week off a sprint tri that I raced above fitness level on the bike, the goal was to stay within my means. I accomplished that, but it limited my ability to perform faster and I was good with it. Last updated: 2008-06-18 12:00 AM

Got up around 4:45. Got about 6.5 hrs sleep. Breakfast: coffee, 14oz powdered Gatorade, 16oz water, banana, 1.5 bowls of plain oatmeal, plain bagel with cream cheese. Done eating at 5:30 (race at 7:30), left house about 5:50. Got to site about 6:20.
Finally focused on warming up! 10 min spin on the bike, then about 7 minute jog, bathroom break, Clif shot, then 4-5 minute swim. I did some pickups during warmups to get my muscles ready and hopefully to prevent cramping that was present in previous races. Felt good and ready to go!
