Pre-race routine:

This race was on Whidbey Island. We went over to the island on Friday afternoon and spent the afternoon and evening at one of my wife's friends cabins. It was awesome!! There is nothing better than sitting on the beach eating fresh cracked crab the night before a race. Got up this morning and had a clif bar for breakfast about 2 hours before the race.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 15m 54s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first OWS with my new wetsuit. It is awesome! I loved the suit. I need to improve my swim.
What would you do differently?:

I need to spend more time in the pool and take a few lessons to improve my form.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

The transitions in this race were in 2 different locations. At T1 we had to remove our wetsuits and put them into a bag to give to a handler to transport to the finish line. Then we put on our bike stuff and then headed to the bike racks.
What would you do differently?:

I thought T1 went very well considering the strange setup they had going on.
Bike
  • 1h 01m 1s
  • 19.5 miles
  • 19.18 mile/hr
Comments:

I was very happy with my bike leg. After driving the course last night, i was concerned about all the hills. The nice thing about these hills was that every time I went up, I also got to come down. The course was beautiful. I look forward to riding it again soon.
What would you do differently?:

My legs died on me with about 2 miles left. I think this was largely due to the lack of training rides of this distance. I would have done better with more long rides, but I am happy with how it turned out.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

I was slowed up here because I had to wash a ton of beauty bark and pine needles off of my feet from T1. They didn't bother me on the bike, but would have been rough on the run. I had a pack of sport beans that I planned to eat as I started my run, but I couldn't find them. Turns out that somebody else decided they needed them more than I did. I found the wrapper left in transition after the race.
What would you do differently?:

Hide my sport beans:>)
Run
  • 27m 40s
  • 3.8 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought that I ran well. I did run out of gas towards the end and was unable to run the guy down who was in front of me. Overall, not bad though.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks to help get my legs under me sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

Went and saw my family. Ate a bunch of fresh fruit and drank a ton of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of long training rides.

Event comments:

This race was great. I won a mini fridge at the award ceremony. The timing results were messed up, so I did not get my 3rd place medal. They said they will mail it.
