Swim
Comments: Great swim as compared to exptected outcome. I started in the 700's with a lot of the slower swimmers starting ahead of me (I erroneously quoted my swim time when registering for the event and I got placed in the slower section of the swim start) What would you do differently?: Accurately time and quote my swim times to place in the appropriate start sequence Transition 1
Comments: Pedal cranks were more vertical and so my shoes were flipped over and I couldn't get my feet on top of the shoes/pedals to get going. Got in the way of many competitors while I weaved around looking down. What would you do differently?: Make sure to have my cranks at horizontal posistion to allow shoes to hang freely and allow my feet to knock shoes upright to start pedaling Bike
Comments: Tried to sprint onto last small hill before T2 and left calf cramped. I had to pull back on my effort. First Triathlon=I didn't know how hard the bike would really be. My P.R.E. was very high! What would you do differently?: I MUST train more for the bike. By far my worst leg of this Tri and resulted in missing my goal of 1:15. MUST take in nutrients during last half/last quarter of bike leg. Transition 2
Comments: Surprisingly had some energy left to get into T2 and get bike racked. Big OOPS: I racked, got socks and shoes on really fast, took off out of T2 but had forgotten my race belt & bib! I had to turn around thru the woods back into Transition to get it and run thru the Run Start sensor twice. What would you do differently?: DO NOT forget to put on race bib belt after bike. Or, put it on after swim and wear during the bike leg not wait until run leg to put on. Run
Comments: Started with very minimal cramping in both calves, took two Cliff Blocks to compensate. Held back on run for fear of Bonking. I did not run with watch, pedometer, or Ipod so I couln't gage my speed and distance. Course was not marked on last 2 miles and no race clocks were placed along the course. What would you do differently?: Must take in GU and other nutrients 10-15 minutes before the run/T2. Get a watch or heart rate monitor to get feedback on effort vs. distance traveled Post race
Warm down: None. Stayed at Finish Line to cheer subsequent finishers and take in liquids What limited your ability to perform faster: 1)Poor nutrient intake. 2)Couldn't use last two rings on rear cassette due to chain hitting front der.cage. 3)Failed at getting feet onto pedals out of T1 4)No watch or pedometer meant I couldn't gage my effort vs. distance traveled.
