Overall Rank = 39/314

Age Group Rank = 6/44
Pre-race routine:

It was dark, I did a lot of set up by sense of touch....
Swim
  • 35m 24s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was ok, didn't get kicked too many times. Much better pace than recent swims, viva la wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Bike
  • 2h 40m 28s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.94 mile/hr
Comments:

I might have pushed a bit too hard on the bike, but it was a nice flat course, so I decided to see what I could do. Had a lot of back and neck pain through the middle of the ride, seemed to loosen up a bit towards the end.
Transition 2
  • 04m 9s
Comments:

Feet were still wet after bike and I knew that wasn't going work real well on the run. Tried to dry them a bit, changed socks, applied some blister prevention stuff which slowed things down quite a bit.
Run
  • 1h 53m 45s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Some of the back pain from the bike carried over to the run. It went away right about the time the side ache showed up at mile 3. By mile 4, the side ache had worked it's way up into my shoulder. By mile 5, the stitch/shoulder issue was forgotten and replaced by the blisters forming on the bottoms of my wet feet. Aside from the general fatigue and screaming leg muscles, my feet were causing me the most discomfort. They don't seem to have blistered too bad, but they sure made it hard to keep my form going during the run. They way I could feel the skin sliding around, I thought the bottoms of my feet were going to torn to shreds when I took my socks off.

Comparing the drop off of my bike and run pace in the HIM to shorter events this year, it looks like I fried my legs a bit on the bike, but I didn't over do it to the point that I couldn't finish the run, so I can live with a better bike split than run split.
What would you do differently?:

Hurt less

Event comments:

Was amazed with my time. I was thinking 5:30 would be an absolute best case and would have been happy with anything under 6:00.

Really appreciated Mike driving down with me. Was incredibly helpful to have someone who could still think straight around after the race.

Good race, well run. Hope to do it again next year.
