Swim
Comments: This was not difficult at all. I stayed to the rear of my wave and had an easy time catching a few of my wave swimmers and staying away from the chop. What would you do differently?: Not too much. Training and confidence in performance over the whole race would allow me to go out on the swim harder. I can definitely go for a sub-30 minute swim leg next year. Transition 1
Comments: Really smooth in transition. I did get hung up on with my suit on my ankles but it just took 2 more step and pull's for each leg and I was fine. What would you do differently?: Might consider taking suit off on the run to get to T1. Bike
Comments: Certainly training will help in maintaining higher MPH over the uphill sections. I tried ZYM sodiumtablets in both my water bottles to try and avoid cramps at end of bike leg....it worked! I love that stuff. What would you do differently?: Train, train, train Transition 2
Comments: I had a great transition(it felt that way anyway). My legs were "fresh" and not tight. I had no complications with equipment or cramping at all. Socks on easy, shoes on easy, and I was gone! What would you do differently?: Nothing! Run
Comments: I had a great 1st 3 miles. I ended up taking two more Roctane's during the run when I previously needed only one. My thighs above my knees were cramping at every landed stride and I was loosing my energy quickly. I was 40 seconds slower per mile than my goal and my Bang's Lake Olympic performance. I can't figure out what was the change in dropped performance level? What would you do differently?: Possibly training at race pace would help me overcome the drop in minutes per mile I experienced. I will be racking my brain to figure out why I got so much slower on the run than my previous tri's. Post race
Warm down: Took a bath in cold towel barrel! Ate like a horse, and rehydrated. All in about 10 minutes post race finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not too sure. My run was always very strong and I wanted a 7:30/mile pace but fell well short. This is the area to work on for next year. Event comments: What a great race! With the amount of competitors out there it is really a wonderful surprise to have set up, transitioned, and run the tri with little to no congestion or technical problems.
