Event warmup:

Jogged early at 4:00 am and then again at at 7:30 am. Swam about 50 yards to warm up with the wetsuit on. Felt good and ready to go! Ooops! I had to pee in my wetsuit though... sorry everybody, it was time to start! :)

Comments:

Water felt good after being in there awhile. I love swimming in wetsuits! They practically swim for you! I was scared as shit starting off! I couldn't navigate at all at first! I need to practice sight swimming next week... if I don't drown right now! LOL! Half way trough I got way off course and swam way further out then needed... the boats let me know I was off course though and got me back on track! Thanks fellas!
What would you do differently?:

Practice sight swimming in open water more so I don't get so off course!
Transition 1

Comments:

I totally knocked my neighbors bike over because my heels got stuck on the wetsuit and I almost fell over! I quickly re-mounted his bike on the rack and set up his helmet and shades! Sorry guy! These cute young chicks started giggling at me too who were spectators :( Aww so embarrassing! Ha-ha! LOL! Oh well! At least I made them smile... :)

Slapped on the shoes, helmet, shades, and clopped my way to the mount! Now lets' kill this fucker and bike my ass off!
What would you do differently?:

Not take off my wetsuit so frantically and wink at the cute girls when I make them giggle! LOL! :)

Comments:

Passed some dudes on this one and I got passed myself as well! Those damn aero wheels sound like a ninja coming to kick your ass when they ride up on ya! All in all, I was really happy with my biking. This is normally my weakest leg! I thought I'd do it in 45 min not 33 min! I was pleased! Had a Gu shot and some H2O around 45 min into my race... getting a little gassy feeling though, it's fart time! Sorry folks behind me! :) LOL!
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a little more but not by much... like I said, I was pleased!

Comments:

I would have practice this one more if I could do it all over. I screwed up taking of my shoes and stuff. Then I got a calf cramp from taking off my shoes in a hurry. Had to stop and stretch it out... bummer! At least the cute girls were gone and couldn't laugh at me! :) Shoes were on but my feet were numb... weird! Oh well! Time to do what I do best... RRRUUUNNNNNN!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Practice shoe transition more!

Comments:

Walked this one the day before so I was ready for this one too! Felt like I was doing 10 min mile but when I got to the finish line I was really surprised! I sprinted the last 400 meters and did the 5k in 23:06! :)
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a little more but not by much!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around some... no wife and kids to be found or Fil either! Still on my own. Bummer! I wish I had someone to take my picture or some Triathlon buddies to chat with and celebrate with... Oh well. :(

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor transitions but it was my very first Triathlon ever

Event comments:

Overall I think this went awesome, for my Very First Triathlon!!!! 92 out of 613 finishers isn't too shabby for a newbie! I am hooked though! I need to make some local friends though, so I'm not so on my own all the time!

Got up at 3:30 am! My alarm was set for 4:00 am but I was way too excited for this race! This would be my first triathlon ever and I was not going to miss a beat! I slept only 4 & 1/2 hours but I was so pumped up it didn't matter! I ate breakfast at 4:00 am. Uncle Sam cereal and strawberries as usual and then I jogged about a mile to kind of get my body ready for the day! My neighborhood was so quite and I mentally walked through things as I jogged around my neighborhood. I packed my gear and loaded the car the night before to make sure I was set! Nothing was missing and I was ready to go at a quarter to four after my shower and shave! I got there at 5:20 am and people were already there! The sign in tent was set up already with some floodlights! Sweat! I got my stuff and was ready to set up at transition by 5:30 am! I couldn't remember where you're supposed to set up for the maximum benefit so I asked some of the more seasoned triathletes and they let me know that bike in and out was the place to be and to set up toward the end of the racks! Great advice! :) So I picked an awesome spot next to an Xtera team of guys who looked like they knew what they were doing! Worked out great! I walked around and got my 2nd morning poop done and over with and was ready to rock! It was too early still to be warming up at this point so I walked around some more and tried to stay warm! I peed like ten more times and had a Clif Bar. It was still only 6:00 am and the race wouldn't start till 8:00 am. The stars were all out and I though of my Dad looking down on me from heaven... "I hope you're proud Pop!" "I know you always supported me in Cross Country and Track as a kid! Drove me to all the Bolder Boulders back in high school and was always right on the last bend of the track to cheer me on!" "I miss you Dad..." Then I said a little prayer that God and Dad would watch over me so that I could at least have a good time and make my goal of 1 hour and 30 min. "Please God, help me finish this crazy awesome thing!" The sun finally started to rise at 6:30 am and then a million people showed up! I was getting intimidated... there are some serious looking triathletes here with some badass bikes and gear. I might be humiliated! I wish the wife and kids were here to cheer me on but it's so early... that wouldn't be fair to ask... I'll see them at 10:00 am. Maybe my buddy Fil will show up from The Run club... probably not, he's a bar tender and he probably just is getting into bed right now! Oh well, I got ME to rely on and that's what Triathlons are all about! Rely on yourself to make it, believe in yourself! Well, I believe I'm ready to start and kick some ass!!!
