Swim
Comments: Went about a 1/4 off the course before the first marker and was corralled back in by the kayak. it threw me off a little because i had to fight back. Luckily, i wasn't last getting out and I thought I was getting passed by women in the wave behind me like nuts, but I passed someone in the wave before me!!! I wasn't too tired when i got out and I could have really busted out my swim more. Good for next weeks 1/2 mile. Goal: finish swim. Met. **So psyched that even with the course problem I still did better for my time than I normally do in practice! Go me! What would you do differently?: STAY ON COURSE!! I need to work on my sighting because I wasted energy and time on going off course. i was much better during practices, but the chop was pretty rough and the wind. I also have to push more. The fear that I'm going to run someone over was a little tough, but I pushed it out at the end. Transition 1
Comments: Out of the water, I pulled down the wetsuit and then pulled off the cap and goggles. Go me for remembering that. wetsuit went really well, but it's frustrating to have that on the ground and it made me nervous it would get in the way. It didnt'. walked/ran the bike out and would have like to run more but it was crowded and I decided to conserve. Bike
Comments: Hopped on my bike but had my gloves in my hand. I had to figure out how to get my shoes in the clips, going up hill, and get my gloves on. i got one on and then dropped the other so I stopped some spectators who were walking, gave them my glove, asked them to pick up the other and drop them off with registration. No biggie, kept on going. THAT HILL WAS TOUGH! I passed a bunch of people on the first half but man oh man, I've never faced anything like that hill. It was tough to see people who had hopped off their bike, but I had never thought of doing that before and was close at one point. It felt like I wasn't going anywhere!! The downhills were the best. I practiced tough hills but nothing was like that. Goal: pass people on the bike. Met (and how!!! good job) And I could see Niki near the end too!!! I was psyched!!! Keeping pace with her makes me happy because she's so darn good. And good timing on the Gu. It tasted pretty good and I think it helped overall. What would you do differently?: baby powder in the gloves and put them on before I left the transition area. I thought I needed them more, but I could always go without. Better job passing around cars and letting people know cars are behind us. I did really well motivating and warning other people about passing, but I need to say "car". Transition 2
Comments: Rode up and need to work on a moving dismount. IT was so crowded and I came in really fast next to another woman so we stopped, dismounted and walked/ran our bikes back. People were standing in the transition area so I had to go around them (just standing in the middle which was frustrating) but it didn't slow me down. Threw the bike on and helmet came off (can't remember where, but it was off) Bent over and stretched for a quick second. As I was grabbing my visor, I kept thinking "what else do I need?" but that's it! Such a breeze compared to T1. Haha. Niki was already off and running. She's so fast!! I guess I came in pretty close behind. What would you do differently?: nothing. Smooth T2. Very happy. Run
Comments: Started up hill (felt like I was going no where!) I am such a slow runner so already people were passing me. I also stopped at a car and stretched my calves quickly on the side window. During my bike I kept saying "bust this out and you can walk on the run" so during my first mile I took one step of walking and then thought "what am i doing?! run this!!" So I ran the entire thing!! (minus the walk at the water, but i never count that. I like to drink the water a little.) I was SO SLOW!!! But I did it. I kept on pace with two women and kept pushing them along. At the end one of them flew past us but I had to sprint past the other. I didn't think I'd have the sprint power in me, but I wanted to finish!!! Goal: Run the whole thing. Met!!!! What would you do differently?: run a little faster and do some serious leg stretches before the races. But the calves were probably tight because of the biking. Post race
Warm down: I just wanted to find my friends and family and celebrate! I couldn't believe I was a triathlete!!! It's like "that's it? I did it? I'm a triathlete?!" The medal was really awesome too. I'm still riding that high. I wish we had been able to hang out longer, but the pack up process was long and tedious. haha and I even had to ride my bike up hill to get the car!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I just needed to train harder in running. i need to workout doing sprints, not just distance. If I can get my muscles and my body to move faster, I'll be much much happier. Also, sighting during the swim. If I had swam on course, i would have been faster... hopefully I can work on that. Event comments: Max Performance did an amazing job of making everyone feel welcome, supported, and excited. With all of the pre-race events and emails, it felt like I was part of a family. It was so awesome to be so supported by a great organization. And to have my dad drive 4 hours that morning just to see me race... awesome. I can't thank Niki enough. I couldn't tell her this at the race because i knew I'd get emotional, but I NEVER would have followed through on this if it weren't for her. She made it seem so easy and so possible, and it was! We worked our butts off, we motivated each other, and having that person there to make you push just that much harder during the race was amazing. This year has been just one amazing thing after another and I am so excited to see what's next! Last updated: 2008-09-07 12:00 AM

Didn't sleep so well but tried and was happy that I stayed relaxed and calm. woke up early to get there early (5:30) but should have slept a little more since we didn't get there until 7:10. Packed everything up and left. Breakfast: Luna Bar, Red Bull, 1/2 bagel w/peanut butter. Got to the race and dropped everything off, filled up our bikes with air, but had to move the car and find parking. that stressed me out and I wish the boyfriends had been there to drop us off and do that so I could set up. When I finally made it back, I only had 20 minutes to grab my stuff and set up. Luckily, I stayed calm and was pretty happy with how I set it up.
I met up with my dad and the boyfriends, tossed on the wetsuit and hopped in the water to swim. I couldn't believe how ok i was with the water. It was nice and cool and cloudy, which I think really helped with silly fear of open water... didn't hit me today! I also stretched a bit, but really wish I had stretched a little more in my legs and shoulders. Not a problem though.
