Swim
Comments: Thought I was going to be smoked by everyone in my wave and I was able to hang with some swimmers that normally would beat me very easily. What would you do differently?: Try and be quicker out of the water and get a better spot so I don't swim in a crooked line. Transition 1
Comments: Had to cover a lot of distance from the end of the swim to the transition area. What would you do differently?: Practice these more because they hurt me a little bit. Mounting my bike was slow as well. Wish I didn't have to wear socks (old blisters on feet). Bike
Comments: Did a little bit of passing (more than I expected). Little slower pace than I wanted but I felt comfortable the entire ride which was good. What would you do differently?: Get the gears on my bike tuned up better. It was a struggle to shift into the high ring and then to shift out of it. Also, learn to be smarter on the hills. Transition 2
Comments: Easy to find my rack for my bike and not too difficult to get all my gear sorted out. What would you do differently?: Learn how to dismount quickly and ride with my feet on top of my shoes instead of unclipping and then getting off of the bike. Run
Comments: Run at nice pace felt comfortable here as well. Managed to pass a lot of people on the run. Couldn't find the extra gear when I needed to though (story of all 3 elements). Picked it up the last little bit to finish strong. What would you do differently?: Train more LT to improve speed and train to find the extra gear to use at the end of the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and drank a lot of water sharing race stories with everyone and waiting for other people I knew to finish up. Stretched out a little bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: I couldn't push as hard as I wanted to at the end of all three legs. I don't know if this was a result of nutrition during the race or if I just didn't train to do that. Event comments: I loved this course, even though it was my first one and I don't have anything to compare it to. It was everything I could have imagined my first triathlon to be. Had a bagel with cream cheese, Powerbar, and an apple for breakfast. Arrive early and make sure that everything on the bike is in order. Went and set up transition area. Continued to move around the entire time and chatted it up with some people at the venue that I knew. Had a gel 30 minutes before race and drank a lot of water the entire time.
Did a little bit of jogging to get a little sweat going and get the heart rate up. Stretched out very good.
