Pre-race routine:

Show up early get my packet. Got my bike rode it around a bit and made sure my gears were in a good starting position set up my transition. stretched and put on my wetsuit.
Event warmup:

stretches and a short bike ride.
Swim
  • 18m 5s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my second time in an open water swim, the first time was Friday with the wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Trained in the open water more.
Transition 1
  • 04m 49s
Comments:

First transition from swim to bike. So I felt okay. I wasn't focused on hurrying but just making sure I completed everything I did in transition. I did start getting my wetsuit off on the way to the transition, and I took time to drink some water and eat an energy goo.
What would you do differently?:

change faster
Bike
  • 1h 30m 45s
  • 10.9 miles
  • 7.21 mile/hr
Comments:

This was my second triathlon and first off-road race and only second time riding off-road, so I was very happy that my 12 year old no-suspension bike made it without breaking and so did I. I learned alot about using momentum and gravity to my advantage.
What would you do differently?:

I would have my bike checked out the week before a race. My two highest gears didn't always work which definitely hurt me on the hills. Practice more off-road riding.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Pretty easy transition since all I had to do was rack my bike and take off my helmet.
Run
  • 27m 13s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good. Drank some gatorade at the first station and wasn't sure if it was going to set well. Was able to relax and control my breathin so I could pick up my pace after the big hill.
What would you do differently?:

Just train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Hit the slip and slide and then walked around, ate some of the great snacks, drank some water and Gatorade and did some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swim was limited by my lack of training in open water. Bike portion was limited by my limited experience riding off-road and a less than stellar MTB. But at least the bike didn't totally break down.

Event comments:

Seemed like a well run race. I didn't stick around for the post race activities. I would do it again if I have a better bike next year.
