Run
Comments: We did 4:1, 3:1, 3:2, 2:2, whatever Coach Steve felt the conditions and my performance warranted. But we RAN our race the whole way! We got the nutrition right, and I was certainly hydrated enough, as I had to pee several times during the event. Probably drank too much water, but I figured that was better than not enough...Miles 19-24 were rough, but I never considered dropping out. I came up with the idea to assign names to each mile from 6 to 26, and I'd think of that person and imagine him/her wishing me well, thinking of me, praying for me, being proud of me and/or loving me. That was a brilliant way to stay in the right side of my brain and strengthen my mental game. What would you do differently?: Not drink Powerade (not to be gross, but it made me poop!) Not pour water down my back once it got hot. It felt good but I'm pretty sure it caused me to chafe under my bra and gave me blisters because my socks got wet. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a lot. They handed out Mylar blankets. A beautiful girl put the medal over my head! I iced my right knee, which had started to bother me a bit toward the end and was swelling up. Drank water, Coke, ate fruit and some delicious bars they had. Got photos. What limited your ability to perform faster: Spending so much time in the porta-potties and the lines to get into them! Event comments: It was AMAZING! I'd recommend it to anyone for a first marathon because it was so well organized, had so many aid stations (yay Biofreeze!), had so much entertainment and a ton of volunteers. Plus going through the parks was diverting and gave us a lot to look at. Great race! Last updated: 2008-10-16 12:00 AM

Got up at 2 to be in the car at 2:15. Drove around to three different places to try to get breakfast and finally bought bagels, peanut butter and bananas at a Walgreens. No traffic heading into the park, so we got there about 3:30. Ate, dozed in the car and hit the porta-potty before heading to the starting corral about 5:30.
About 1/2 mile walk from staging area to starting line.
