Overall Rank = 280/538
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 13/18
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4 and had coffee, a banana and a slice of white bread. So excited to get the year started I really couldn't sleep.
Event warmup:

Swam a little to get over the shock of the temperature of the water. It wasn't as cold as I had feared but I must say I have been in nicer (cleaner) water in my life.
Swim
  • 14m 41s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

First let me say that I met my overall goal for the race so I am refusing to the disappointed but this swim was not great. This lake just freaks me out I guess. I actually felt pretty good at the time but the sighting...well..
What would you do differently?:

I need to practice breathing with every stroke - I think that is what pulls me to the right and breaks my normal swim rhythm.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

I was really dizzy coming out of the water but it was all right, no major issues.
What would you do differently?:

nothing - just be faster
Bike
  • 37m 41s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 17.83 mile/hr
Comments:

I like this course, it is fast and fun. Lost my water bottle - luckily it rolled off into the ditch.
What would you do differently?:

I really just need to hammer harder and not worry about the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Just fine. Had some trouble navigating through a VERY crowded transition area and had some trouble getting the bike racked. Overall ok.
Run
  • 29m 45s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought I did great on the run today. I guess now that I am racing with the big girls in my AG I am still getting my A.. handed to me. Slowest run in my AG - that does sting a bit. I have come a long way on my run but this is still my challenge - watch for me at the top of the charts in my AG next year!!!
What would you do differently?:

I did what I could. My calves were cramping the first mile but I worked through it. More miles in training and I am sure I will improve. My time last year was over 34 minutes so a 5 min improvement - I think I will take it!
Post race
Warm down:

stretched a little and hung out with my "team"

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing - I met my goal to take 10 minutes off last year (which was my first race) and I did that. It was great.

Event comments:

This is a great race but I thought it was simply too crowded. Transition was a traffic jam. Didn't see a lot of volunteers either. The atmosphere among the participants is always great though, I will definitely be back next year.
