Swim
Comments: Overall pleased with the first performance with the wetsuit. Heart rate was too high when I got out so the opening of the bike leg suffered. What would you do differently?: Go slower and more steady so the HR would stay down. I believe my overall performance would have been close to the same and I would have done better on the bike. Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was very crowded and navigating it was difficult. I did try riding on top of my shoes out of T1 but it was pretty up hill so I didn't really get much benefit from improved speed. Maybe on a different course it would more effective. What would you do differently?: Maybe put the shoes on first. Bike
Comments: My training this year has shown me that his is a definite liability and my average speed has been difficult to get back up to 14 mph. This was the fastest ride for me this year. I've got to incorporate some intervals and hills into my rides and not just spin for long low intensity rides. What would you do differently?: Get on my road bike sooner. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this spring and summer. Transition 2
Comments: I sat down to put socks on and lace up my shoes. I had not yet put yankz on this set of running shoes and did not want to ruin a good new set of shoes by bleeding on them. I didn't get my shoes tied quite as well as I would have like and kept thinking I was going to have to stop and do them over again. What would you do differently?: Use my shoes with yankz and not have to lace them. Run
Comments: I was hoping for a sub 40 minute time so I was very disappointed but based on the course it wasn't a realistic goal. I do have to start running outside on a more challenging course and limit my treadmilling to raining days and zone 1-2 runs. The good news is that this was still a PR by 2+ minutes. What would you do differently?: Spend more time with hills and do more strength training for challenging runs. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and went back down to thank my NAMC buddies. Without the help of Greg and Jonathan, the time would have definitely been slower but they help to push and motivate us to keep going. What limited your ability to perform faster: A little sore in the legs on the first part of the run and then just being overwhelmed by the steepness of the course. Event comments: First time to do this race and will probably keep it in the rotation now that I know what to expect. Last updated: 2009-01-09 12:00 AM

Got up at 4am and got ready at the house. Did a protein drink and made a pbj for the road. Stopped at a quik trip and used the bathroom and got a banana.
Jogged a little be and did a very short swim to test out the wetsuit.
