Peanut Butter sandwich and a lot of butterflies went into the stomach.

No problems except putting my running shoes on feet with wet socks. I had to throw away the shoes after the race.

I wasn't sure how hard I was running since I didn't have my HR monitor. I think I was very safe with my tempo and pace so I didn't work too hard. I may have left some of my speed on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder and push myself to the limit.

Lack of experience and not enough running outside.

HR surged on 3 or 4 hills.

Course: It was raining and the course was a little technical. Several people fell on the wet pavement. Also, the hills on this course were very steep. The final hill led back up to the transition area and many athletes had to push their bikes up the final hill. My mountain bike was able to make all of the hills but not without dropping to the granny gear several times.

I left my HR monitor on my bike so I didn't get to monitor my run closely. I ran slowly since I couldn't keep track of my HR.
Course: Easy start with a downhill and flat for the first 2.5 miles and a huge hill to the finish.
