Swim
Comments: I usually swim with a nose clip, but I was to busy talking to the people behind me that when it was my turn, I forgot to put it on. I realized halfway down the lane that I was getting water up my nose, and I freaked out a little. Then there was splashing all around me and every time I would come up for air, I would swallow water. About half way through, I calmed down a little and tryed to focus on what I was doing. What would you do differently?: Practice more in turbulent water! Work on form, so much that it's second nature. Overall become a better swimmer. :) Transition 1
Comments: No tranistion times. There was a problem with the computers and the transition times are added to the bike time. T1- seemed like it went okay. I ran out of the pool and right to my bike. On with the helmet and shoes, and ran out with my bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: There were more hills than I anticipated. It was a straight out and back route, and it felt like I was either climbing or flying - no real flat areas. It took a few minutes for my legs to wake up. I hadn't done any swim to bike bricks, and my legs didn't respond very well at first. I only struggled on one of the first hills, and then after that it was a really nice ride. I probably enjoyed the view a little too much. Thinking how much fun I was having and that I was actually DOING a TRIATHLON instead of trying to really push it. My goal was to finish, so I was just out enjoying the countryside. What would you do differently?: Be a lot more aggressive and focus on staying fast. Also, I really need to work on drinking more on the bike. It makes me feel off balanced when I'm reaching for the bottle, so I know I'm not drinking enough. Transition 2
Comments: Again, no time. Right before the TA, we rode up onto a sidwalk. There was a crowd there cheering everyone on, which was cool, but there was a little kid running around and he ran onto the sidewalk directly in my path. I had to break, and try to not hit the kid, which caused me to crash! Which is the first "crash" I've had on my road bike. I wasn't embarrased, but totally frustrated. I banged my wrist, and scraped my leg, but I'm fine. I grabbed the bike and ran to my tranistion. I probably spent a little more time than I should have in T2, because I was shaking a little and nearly lost my balance a couple of times. What would you do differently?: Not crash! Run
Comments: Mile 1: straight up hill. Literally! I had to walk a couple of times, when it got really steep. Mile 2: all down hill, which was nice. I started to get a stomach cramp. I was debating whether it was my abs or not drinking enough. I was kicking myself for not drinking more on the bike. I wasn't moving all that fast, but I was still trying to enjoy the moment. What would you do differently?: Drink more on the bike, so I feel better on the run. I also need to start doing speed work on my run workouts. Post race
Warm down: Walked around with the family, stretched and had some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to work on speed a little more in my training. So far, I've just focused on doing the time, now I need to improve my pace. Event comments: Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE that I talked to was friendly and encouraging. The volunteers and athletes were all fantastic. I had a great time, and I thought it was a good option for my first race. Last updated: 2009-02-12 12:00 AM

Woke up about 5 AM, got dressed, had a muffin, and had the husband loaded my bike in the car.
Set up my transition area, talked to a lot of great folks and walked around the rec center. Found the pool and bathrooms. Basically, just walked around trying to stay warm.
