Swim
Comments: Kept running into the people in front of me early, and I was too nice to just swim over them. Only one really good kick to the face, but it displaced my goggles. What would you do differently?: More OWS practice. Swimming in open water, in a wetsuit, without having to turn around (and get that extra breath) every 25 yards makes this a completely different animal. I will also stay near the front of the pack for an in water start like this. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was really really really long, and my troubles with running added at least a minute to my time. Once I got to the bike and got my shoes on, I felt that this went really smoothly. Bike
Comments: I was terrible. I noticed on my recovery ride the next day that my front brake was rubbing, and I wonder if it was that way on Sunday. I didn't pass a single person. What would you do differently?: Push harder, especially as I had no plans to run. Transition 2
Comments: I wasn't in any sort of hurry to make it out since I wasn't running. Run
Comments: Did not run. Post race
Warm down: Walked to the finish line to look for friends and turn in my chip. Drank a disgusting muscle milk and ate a pb sandwich and some fruit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cigarettes, alcohol, laziness. Event comments: There's no reason I shouldn't have been faster on my two events. Since I didn't have anything to save for the run, and I haven't been training for the run, I should have been a beast on the swim and bike. While I may have had an equipment issue (bike brake), I still should have done much better. All in all, though, I had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed this race. I'm not certain if I will do it again next year, but I would recommend it to others. Last updated: 2009-02-26 12:00 AM

When they kicked off the music at 5:15, the first song they played was "How Far Is Heaven." There are absolutely zero circumstances I can imagine wanting to hear that song, but making it the first music of my day was torturous. We got to transition super early, so I was able to get all of my stuff laid out and rearrange it fifty times before the people around me showed up.
