Run
Comments: Pretty much just got up to speed and tried to hang on. Ran into Kim (k_hase) within the first few minutes. Spent the first 2-ish miles running with Eric's friends Matt and John, then by Ranger for most of the way in. I was really just hoping to break 32 mins at this race, but after the first mile (7:27), I thought maybe I could finish under 30. Garmin read the course a little long (almost 1/10 of a mile), not sure if that's from bobbing and weaving through the crowd, but that was the fastest I could go without puking. So I beat last year's time by nearly 2 minutes...I'll take it! Thanks to all my pacers that pushed me to go faster! What would you do differently?: Not much...it was a super fun day spent with lots of friends...good weather and a PR. Post race
Warm down: Ummm...beer. And watching one of the lamest parades I've seen! It was funny though...and now I know why we usually don't make a real effort to actually watch the parade... Good times hanging out with friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Maybe my shin splints? I don't know...that was my fastest pace so far, so I guess they didn't slow me down. Event comments: Love this race! Last updated: 2009-03-14 12:00 AM

Slept in since the race didn't start until noon, then had a bigger than usual pre-race breakfast. Taped up my leg to try to give my shin splints some more support. Made the drive downtown and found good parking that just happened to be by 3 cars full of friends! Got our packets and hung out for a bit with a few different groups before having to make a final wardrobe selection for the weather.
For shorter races, I have to get in a pretty good warmup to get the blood going. Spent about 15+ minutes running up and down Michigan Ave, ended with some pickups.
