Swim
Comments: Very physical swim. I've never gotten bumped or clawed this much. I tried drafting a couple times and people would just swim right through and crash into me and I would lose the person I was drafting. It was very difficult to see the buoys because the water was warmer than the air and there was a lot of steam rising from the water. Maybe a lot of people were off course and that's why they were swimming into me, but it was very distracting. What would you do differently?: Keep my focus better. Be more physical so I don't get pushed around so much. Get faster! I need to get faster! Transition 1
Comments: Very long run to transition. I was actually one of the fastest transition times. Doofus next to me took his bike OFF the rack, LAID IT ON THE GROUND BEHIND MINE and then was getting his stuff on. WTH!? He did move it about a second before I needed to get mine off the rack. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Maybe wipe my heels on my towel. I got some grass embedded in my heel, but I don't know if it happened before or after I was at my towel. Bike
Comments: Cooler than usual, so I drank only one bottle (Gatorade) instead of two. Stayed in big chain ring the whole time! Yay! That's a victory for me. Ate some jelly things. Got my watchband for Garmin on during the ride. Stayed aero really well until the last loop when I was getting tired. What would you do differently?: Be able to maintain my effort for a longer period. Transition 2
Comments: Not much time to get out of shoes after turning in toward the transition area. I barely made it! Was fatigued running with bike and looking for my row. Could have gone a little faster. First time getting on Zoots with no socks. Pulled on them twice for each foot even with powder in them. Then they weren't quite right and I got blisters. What would you do differently?: Put Bodyglide on shoe entry points. Take another second to get them on better. Maybe tug the laces a teeny bit tighter? Run
Comments: Great run! Except for blisters on my feet from my shoes and no socks, everything was picture perfect. That last mile around the lake is tough because you can see the finish, but it's like it never comes. I was telling myself to keep my cool and chill out, and I didn't turn it up until the very end. I felt very comfortable in my pace, and I'm surprised it was 8:43 miles. I didn't feel like I was pushing hard. Just concentrating on form. What would you do differently?: Maybe wear socks or fix shoes or something. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and got food. What limited your ability to perform faster: As I train longer and harder, I'll be able to go faster! Event comments: Great job Fat Rabbit! I love the hot burgers! (I could have used a cookie, though.) Last updated: 2009-03-31 12:00 AM

Change in routine: Rode my bike to race site.
Ate 1 Zone bar.
Pumped up tires.
Put lights on bike.
Rode to site.
Set up and ate another Zone bar.
2 mile ride to race venue. No other warmup. I did keep on a sweatshirt and an old towel because it was very chilly. Chose not to warm up in the water.
