Swim
Comments: Planned to be a bit more aggressive on the swim. Pushed hard first few hundred then worked on drafting wherever possible. Sight line is great, but don't swim right on it as everyone else is trying to at the same time, still had some sun glare on the way in to the shore. What would you do differently?: Shooting for sub 30min and thought I was there, tad disappointed to be a minute and a half short. Transition 1
Comments: Trouble getting suit off my foot, had a little calf cramp, I was getting pissed and got distracted and accidentally tore the timing chip off and left without it! (Did not realize until 30 min into bike leg) What would you do differently?: Don't leave without chip. Bike
Comments: Solid effort, felt good the whole bike leg. First race over 20mph ave, made up several spots in my age group. Might have left a little time out there but I wanted to have some reserve for the run. What would you do differently?: Not Much, looking for sub 1:15 with out killing the run. So far so good. Transition 2
Comments: Found my chip, official race time saved! wasted a bit of time looking around though, a minute here, a minute there starts to add up. I got some work to do to get my transistion times down What would you do differently?: Speed lace shoes Run
Comments: I was so relieved to find the chip I forgot to set up my watch for the run split. Running blind so to speak, I thought my pace was slower because I was getting passed and struggled a bit to hold to plan. At the turnaround felt the heat, I was just hoping to get in under 54 min but ended up better than I thought. It ended good but I was flustered watching guys in my age group pass me during the last 5K and I could not answer or even keep 'em in sight. What would you do differently?: I thought I could run 50 min on a perfect day, probably an ambitious goal. Some nausea crept up, I should have taken the chews down a bit slower as I left T2. Overall run based on fitness level that day, executed well otherwise. Post race
Warm down: Drink What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure I peaked for the race, although that was my goal this spring. Taper and prior 2 nights rest could have been better, probably splitting hairs here, I wanted to be under 2:35 ended up at 2:40. Seems childish to be fussing over 5 min - It's all good, 2 yrs in to this, in the best shape in 20 yrs and I am a triathlete! Event comments: Awesome venue Last updated: 2009-04-01 12:00 AM
