Swim
Comments: The swim went great. I assumed I would be one of the slowest swimmers. So, I started in the back and off to the side. I ended up fighting my way through the crowd and by the time I rounded bouy #2 I was pretty much all alone. Turns out I was the fifth out of the water out of about 60 swimmers. What would you do differently?: I think I would try to start a little closer to the front next time. All though I felt like I kept the perfect pace for me and I'm afraid that if I start toward the front I'd go out way too fast. Transition 1
Comments: This transition went pretty well. My stomach was upset. So, I tried to take it easy and a little slower to try to calm my stomach down. I pulled my goggles and cap into the sleeve of my wetsuit but they fell out while I was running to T1. What would you do differently?: More body glide around the ankles and heels. Other than that it went pretty well. Bike
Comments: The bike was okay. My stomach was so upset, I ended up losing my breakfast on mile 2. Because of this, I wasn't able to eat or drink while on the bike. What would you do differently?: Need to figure out how to prevent the upset stomach. I think allot of it was probably nerves. Also, I may have eaten the shot blocks too close to the swim. Transition 2
Comments: Overall the transition went pretty well. I found my rack with no problem. Got the running shoes on relatively fast, grabbed a swig of water, and was on my way. What would you do differently?: Need to work on taking my feet of my biking shoes before getting to the transition area. Also need to work on jumping off of the bike while still moving. Run
Comments: The bad bike definitely set me up for a tough run. I was getting dehydrated and really started to drag. The last half of the run was great. All of teh volunteers and my family and friends were so motivating that the last half of the run was a breeze. What would you do differently?: I think it all comes down to refueling during the bike. Since I wasn't able to drink or eat on the bike I wasn't feeling to hot during the run. Need to do more bricks. Maybe that will help me resolve the stomach issue. Post race
Warm down: Stretched and sucked down as much water as possible. What limited your ability to perform faster: It really just comes down to training. I need to put more time into my bike workouts. I'd like to shave about 5 minutes off of my bike before the next race. Also, need to do some speed work for my running. Doing more bricks would probably be helpful too. Event comments: It was a great venue. The lake was a bit dirty and smelly, but I think that's to be expected in a man made lake. Overall it was a great experience and I can't wait to do another one.
