Swim
Comments: I made it to the first buoy freestyle, not bad for me. Totally winded at that point, started to breast stroke. Very tired. Made it to the first corner before I started to be overtaken by the next wave. They all pretty much swam overtop of me for the rest of the race. Tried to freestyle again in the home stretch but too much traffic to see what I was doing and was being plowed under. What would you do differently?: Ideally, swim overtop of everyone else. Will need to be a much stronger swimmer, if ever, for that to happen. Transition 1
Comments: Took a little extra time getting sox and tri shirt on, but not to bad. Shoes and helmet, glasses went on quick and was off running with the bike. Had trouble clipping in with left foot, could have just been tired legs. What would you do differently?: Not much, process was good but was maybe just a bit casual about it. Could probably have saved the 46 seconds. Didn't have anything to drink at this point. This was a mistake! Went out on the bike starting to feel a bit dehydrated. Must have some fluid in T1 Bike
Comments: Good ride. I was moving fast and passing many riders while staying in my middle ring and not ever going into high gear. Becoming more and more exausted as the ride went on. Didn't handle the last few uphills with much power or speed. Held onto a group I was jockying back and forth with. Tired and a bit out of it at the end of the bike. What would you do differently?: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!!! Transition 2
Comments: Felt overheated and a bit disoriented. Couldn't find my rack spot even though I was right there. I was quick getting ready once I racked the bike. My breathing was still rapid and I finally stopped to drink something. Didn't realize how bad I was until I had drank almost my entire bottle of gatorade. Finally out to the run. What would you do differently?: Being hydrated before getting into transition, I wouldn't have been as disoriented and wouldn't have had to take some time to drink. Putting on shoes and hat and out again should have been about a minutes savings over my transition, still the time was not bad. Run
Comments: Paid the price for not staying hydrated. I had the legs to put in a good time but was almost hyperventilating the first two miles and had to slow to a crawl to slow the breathing. Would normally expect a time around 34 min or better coming off the bike for 4 miles. Kind of regrouped after two miles and picked up the pace. Actually felt strong the last mile and had an all-out sprint with a guy to the finish What would you do differently?: Hydration issue again. Be well hydrated before the run starts. Post race
Warm down: 10 min. of slowing my breathing after the sprint to the finish. The energice popcicle they handed me was badly needed and a blessing. Walking around and went to the finish straightaway to see the wife finish strong. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor hydration, right from the point of geting out of the water. Had a good bike, but it would have been even better. No hydration til after the bike killed my run. I had the legs, but not the oxygen to get the job done. Event comments: I really liked this race. It's a pretty area with a nice lake, good rolling hills bike course and nice scenic run through the cottage neighbourhood. The locals enjoyed cheering us on, were very friendly and did what they could to keep us wet. Last updated: 2005-07-17 12:00 AM

Studied the swim course. Went to the bathroom twice. Lineups were insane, even for the guys john. Ate a breakfast pita and had water 45 min before race. (that was a good move)
Went into the water shortly before the race. Water was nice, made sure my cap and goggles were working properly. Swam out a short ways, swam back. Got in line for the race.
