Swim
Comments: I didn't have as hard a time with the temp as I had when practicing weeks before...i was really slow, and didn't sight well, and was all over...Yes, the canoes, and surfboard people knew exactly where I was at all times!!! That was me! But, I kept my head and kept moving forward, and I finished... What would you do differently?: For this race, try to swim a bit straighter! Overall, get swimming lessons & try to get more time in the pool. Transition 1
Comments: I just took it slowly...halfway through the swim I thought I was going to pull out, so I figured, what the hell, I'll take my time so I don't kill myself, and I'll get on my bike and see how my muscles feel... Bike
Comments: This was my first long bike ride; I know, I know, stupid that that's the first time out on a long ride...I've been nervous about riding on the road, but i had fun, and I got up the hills, and now am ready to get out there more! What would you do differently?: For this race, nothing; for future, get out on some longer rides, get used to riding up & down hills, shifting, etc Transition 2
Comments: I had a hard time walking after getting off the bike...part of my rheumatoid problems is that I get "stuck" in whatever position I am in, then also with the muscles shaking a little, I almost fell down!!! But after a few minutes, my legs started to work their way out of things...and I got into transition, there were a lot of things in the way, so I had to take it slow, so I wouldn't hurt my bike, or anyone else's What would you do differently?: next time, try to get a space closer to the end... Run
Comments: It was fine, just felt like I was shuffling in the beginning after the bike...Due to my rheumatoid disease, I have to walk, but I usually race walk, but I just couldn't get into my normal stride or pace...the last mile felt good, but I honestly thought I was a little faster than what I was, so that was a little disappointing... What would you do differently?: I would just try to get a little stronger so maybe I would do a little better at shaking off he bike legs!! Post race
Warm down: Lots of stretching, long hot shower and more stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of better training, lack of a "normal" body!!! ;) Event comments: I have nothing to compare this too, but I thought it was great!! My only comment is I wish there were more people around Saturday who I could have spoken with to ask questions. It was a lot of fun, all of the race people and many of the athletes were very nice and encouraging. No one laughed in my face when I was almost the last one out of the water!! It was a nice course for a total beginner, bike hills were very manageable, and the run (walk for me) was nice and easy for the end. Last updated: 2009-04-03 12:00 AM
