Run
Comments: Wow. Previous 5k best was 28:14, last year. Felt really good at the start, took it easy until I felt warmed up, then pushed through the uphills, and worse than the hills, the wind, which must have been gusting 25-30 MPH. Couldn't believe it when at the mile 1 marker I was at like 7:25. I slowed a bit due to the wind, but knocking almost 4 minutes off of my PB is a good day. What would you do differently?: I guess I could have pushed more, but I was really in uncharted territory. Post race
Warm down: Stretched, and (unusual for me) watched my friends finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: The wind, but I'm not complaining. Event comments: Only slight complaint, the start was pretty disorganized. Other than that, this was a first class event. Great swag, and the breakfast provided was astounding. This would normally be enough, but in addition the post race party was even better. Huge activity area for the kids, free drinks and food, plus some amazing giveaways. What a great day! First race of the year, so first chance to test out weight loss and improved training. Pre-race mostly consisted of trying to figure out how much I should push it.
Jogged about 1/3 mile, VERY windy. Stretched a bit and was ready to go.
