Overall Rank = 79/156
Age Group = 30-35
Age Group Rank = 12/16
Pre-race routine:

Had 3 multi grain eggo waffles with a total of a tablespoon of peanut butter on them. Travel mug of coffee. Got to site early to set up transition. Mingled, went to the restroom twice.
Event warmup:

Stretched well.
Swim
  • 06m
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got caught in traffic really bad. Passed 6 people but chose to not pass another 3. Got a good stroke going. Seeding at event was screwy as they did it in 2 minute intervals.
What would you do differently?:

I would have picked the faster seed time and called the race director to confirm a better seed time.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Took to much time to get socks on. Didn't need sweatband, and feet were wet as I forgot to dry them off.
What would you do differently?:

Practice putting socks on with wet feet. Calm down and make sure I get clipped in before trying to ride.
Bike
  • 52m 15s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Chain popped off a half mile away from T2, took about a minute to fix it. Hills were tough, but not killer. No dismount line going into T2 made it confusing.
What would you do differently?:

Train more hills. Need to find a way to keep chain on. It always happens in the worst places.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Fast, but rack was blocked by athlete already finished. Frustrated but didn't let it kill me. Passed two people in T2.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I am vocal coming in to done athlete.
Run
  • 29m 45s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

First trail run ever. Was nervous as Jon broke his foot at this event last year. Older guy came and ran with me for a mile urging me on. Kind of cool, as he was waiting for me at finish to give me a high five. Sprinted last 400 yards, and heart rate was done within 2 minutes. Probably could have held 9:00 miles.

Wanted to walk but remembered the guy pushing his son's wheelchair at Clearwater 70.3, and "manned up."
What would you do differently?:

Take out middle mile harder. Train more over distance to be ready at end of event. Need to build the speed up.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for 10 minutes, with some stretching. Drank water, and a G2.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to ride more. Strength wasn't strong enough.

Event comments:

Nice event for a beginner. I had questions and everyone was helpful.
