Swim
Comments: hung out on the pool deck w/ z, shelly, and scott. it wasn't too cold this year so it was actually a lot of fun just messing around. it's also cool to watch the special olympic athletes do the swim. we were cheering and clapping so much that my tri suit was chaffing my arms! there is always so much waiting around, but then your turn comes so fast. i jumped in and took off. luckily i had mostly open water. i had to pass 2 people, but they let me by at the wall. What would you do differently?: nothing. very happy with my swimming this year. i usually give up tons of time on the swim, but not this year. Transition 1
Comments: ok t1. i sprint through transition with and without the bike, but for some reason, i always spend ~10 seconds staring at my shoes like a deer in the headlights. Bike
Comments: the bike is listed as 12 miles and 20k, but i think it's really 12.1 so that would be 22.5mph. either way, i was very happy with the bike. i pushed all out the entire ride. sometimes i ride carefully on the bike counting on my run to save me, but i was a little unsure of my run so i went all out on the bike and took off 2 minutes from last year. probably the best ride i've ever had. when k and i got home, my front tire was completely flat. not sure if it was a slow leak or if it happened rolling it in the grass to leave, but i'm glad it waited. What would you do differently?: nothing. Transition 2
Comments: t2 was much better. right on par with the other leaders (excluding 3558. he is an alien. i couldn't go through t2 that fast if i rode in sneakers). i decided to run in my bike shoes rather than take them off on the bike. the pavement in that parking lot is brutal and i don't think it cost me any time. i was able to hammer the bike right up to the dismount line. What would you do differently?: tie 3558 sneakers together. Run
Comments: i've been having hip issues so i haven't been run training much and wasn't sure how the run would go. luckily it was great and didn't slow me down at all. i think the run course was a little short as well, but i was still happy with the run. What would you do differently?: nothing. Post race
Warm down: cheered on all the other finishers and hung out with the bt crew. bt rocked it and took 5 medals (coffee mugs actually). they had tons of food (i ate a bagel, a granola bar, 2 mini smoothies, 5 orange slices, and 3 mini pb&js). then on the way home, we went to home depot and then got a giant burrito. i consumed 3 times the calories i burned! What limited your ability to perform faster: nothing. even though i dropped a place in my AG this year, i was almost 3 minutes faster, wasn't passed all day, and other than maybe 5-10 seconds in the pool/t1, i didn't leave a second out there on the course. very happy with the race. Event comments: this has been a very good local race for a few years and is becoming a very good race local or not. it has it's quirks (small, race day chip pickup, bad transition pavement/setup, no age on calves), but they do the important things right and it's always a good time. got on the road early (~4:45am) so we were parked and into transition nice and early. it was nice not being rushed and having no line for body marking, bathrooms, or chip pickup. we also go the end spot on the racks so that was nice.
none.
