Swim
Comments: I was freezing when they finally started which I think contributed to my not being able to get going. I couldn't breath well, my arms didn't work well, i was just too cold. Having the route change as your swimming is not cool. I ended up just following who ever was in front of me because I was having a hard time. Not my usual swim and not was I was expecting. Grr... What would you do differently?: I guess buy a wetsuit? Transition 1
Comments: I got 2nd overall for T1! I was slow getting going on the bike with my feet on top due to the pea gravel and the steep downhill. I didn't want to charge down the hill trying to get my feet in knowing that there was a sharp corner at the bottom. I got passed while getting my feet in. What would you do differently?: I think I can increase the pace at which I did everything. Being frozen didn't help. Bike
Comments: Due to my legs being ice cold it was really hard to get going. I just felt off the whole time, very hard. I think I did alright but I was hoping to reach 20mph average. The hills hurt that as they were long and big. What would you do differently?: Have a wetsuit which would hopefully make my legs warmer. Transition 2
Comments: Up a pea gravel hill into a run across a muddy transition area. Since I knew the run was going to suck I didn't go as fast as I probably could of. I took some time cleaning off my feet What would you do differently?: I suppose I could of gone faster but since the run was going to be very hard I wanted to make sure I was comfortable. Run
Comments: Did I say it was hilly? What would you do differently?: If I was in better shape I could of maybe run up the hills harder, but they were so freakin' steep I didn't want to hurt myself. Post race
Warm down: A little bit of stretching and some Gu, cookies, and drink. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think the cold and the race organization caused me to be slow and also caused some confusion. Me and a few others almost got lost on the run. Event comments: The weather of course made this one suck, but it also had the feeling of poor organization. Late start, moving swim bouys, traffic on the roads, not many people pointing the way, didn't make me feel very special about doing a tri really. Last updated: 2009-04-06 12:00 AM

I had a small bowl of cereal, a clif bar on the way to the race and a Gu before hand. I'm wondering if it was too much as I felt really full the whole race.
I had a bunch of plans to warm up and didn't do any of them. The bike road was wet and covered in pea gravel, the run was muddy, and the swim was going to be freezing. Without a wetsuit I decided to just do a little jogging on the beach before hand. I did a little swimming before the start but then the start got delayed which ended up making me near freeze to death. I was shaking uncontrollably when the race started.
