Overall Rank = 164/387
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 18/35
Pre-race routine:

In wildwood, up at 4:15 - bagel with bb, bannana, coffee.
Easy in and out.
Event warmup:

Swam out to the 100 yd marker. First time in ocean and w/wetsuit - all felt pretty good. Caught a huge wave on way in which impacted me in the actual race as I lost some aggressiveness coming out of water wating for a ride.
Swim
  • 09m 4s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

overplayed the effects of the tide/drift and swam some extra yardage - started far right up the beach - when I got to the frist marker I was prblably 30 yards on the wrong side of the race. I was suprised that I got there that quick - after dolphining out I only has about 35-40 yeards to swim and didn't sight well enough. Same with the 200 yard leg - went to far out thinking the tide would bring me in but it really didn't - agian didn't sigth and adjust enough on the leg.
What would you do differently?:

Take more agressive lines to markers and do a better job of sighting. Stay swimming longer on exit - I stood up and looked for a wave that didn't come.
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

didn't feel like it took this long - need to get quicker and better - a little bit of a bottle neck made we walk with bike trying to get out also added some time.
What would you do differently?:

practice
Bike
  • 39m 23s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 18.74 mile/hr
Comments:

first time on new bike in an event and overall pretty happy with the time. This is about 4 minutes faster than previous events at like distances.
What would you do differently?:

Of course train more but overall pretty happy with bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Run
  • 28m 40s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

disappointing - walked a number of times - was not prepared for the extra effort to run on the beach and didn't compete very well.
What would you do differently?:

need to do formal run training including intervals, tempo, etc... Training consisted of same distance jogs that don't position me to respond when I needed to step up.
Post race
Warm down:

bag of pretzels and some water and started the drive back to philly

What limited your ability to perform faster:

didn't train nearly enough - only got in about 3 hours of training a week

Event comments:

Didn't get to hang around after the race so can't fully rate it. There was a false start for the first wave which had no effect on me - other than that a great cause and a good race.
