Swim
Comments: Had a lot of trouble going under the ropes and pushing off the wall on the turn-arounds. Need to master pushing off the wall and going under the rope all in one motion. Should have practiced this more...cost me lots of time. What would you do differently?: What I did: Stop at the wall, duck under the rope, come up for breath, go back under, push off the wall. What I should have done: Stop at the wall, take a breath, go back under and push off...going under the rope and into the next lane under water. Transition 1
Comments: Good T1 - air didn't feel cold on my wet skin, so I decided to go with the sleeveless tri-top for the bike & run. Good decision - I never got cold on the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Didn't ride the course before race day, but I knew that it was lots of hills. Pushed it pretty hard on the bike, but with all the hills, I made up for my slow swim time by passing 8 people on the bike. What would you do differently?: Take in more water. With all the hills, I really didn't get a chance to reach down and grab the water bottle. Transition 2
Comments: Slowed down way too early heading into the park entrance. I took my feet out of the shoes and then had to pedal some more to make it to the dismount area. What would you do differently?: Ride harder into the park and not take feet out of shoes until I was ready to coast into the dismount area. Run
Comments: Legs were jello coming out of T2...first mile was horrible. Got my stride and made up some time until I got to the hill on the way back. What would you do differently?: I need to work on more bricks going from a long-hard ride into a fast run. My legs didn't react very good going from bike to run. Post race
Warm down: Didn't really warm down too well. I started to talk to people and forgot to stretch and cool down properly! What limited your ability to perform faster: Not practicing going under the rope while doing turns in the pool. Not training well enough for a run after a hilly bike course. Event comments: It was my first time doing one of the Max Performance races and it was well organized and a lot of fun. It will be on my race calendar for years to come! Powerbar about 45 min. before race, set up transition area. Couldn't decide if I wanted to wear long sleeves for the bike & run or go with the sleeveless tri shirt. Decided to wait until I got to T1 and make the decision on the fly.
Light stretching.
