Swim
Comments: It was very surreal to be surrounded by a dozens of women with blue swim caps wandering into the lake to start. It was funny to hang out and tread water for a few before the gun went off. We were all looking at each other like, "what the hell are we doing here?" I am writing this a few months later and honestly, my memory is fading. I don't remember the start being so bad. I think I put myself a bit in the back. It was my goal to do the whole thing freestyle. It took me a few 100 yard before I got that going. I flipped on my back a few times in the beginning (maybe because I started out too fast). When I did get it together, I got in a groove and swam the second half freestyle. I do remember 2 things quite clearly. First, I was stuck behind one woman who was a solid swimmer but mad terrible splashes as she went. Took me a while to get away from her. Second, at the end, I planted my hand right in someone's but. Sorry to whoever that was...I really wasn't looking! BTW, I have since heard that this course was longer than advertised. Maybe as much as 200 meters longer. Don't know about that one. I do think my time was a bit slower than I expected. But, really, When I was done, I was sooooo glad to be out of the water that I actually ran up the hill to my bike, smiling! Transition 1
Comments: WAY too long! I knew I was taking a long time when I was doing it. This is just something I will need to practice! Bike
Comments: My best part of the race! I had a great time, felt great and rocked the course! At one point I was surrounded by 40-something women all kicking ass! I was so proud to be part of that! I have heard that racers get annoyed by this race because of all the "ignorant" beginners. I sure hope I didn't get in anyone's way. :D Transition 2
Comments: I think this went ok. I rode in my running shoes so it made this one quick. Run
Comments: This was, by far, the toughest part of the race. I struggled on some of the hills. Did some walking. I was hoping to race at 9:30 pace and ended up with 10:30 pace. Oh well. Better luck next time! I did get the privilege of seeing the first para athlete compete. She was running on a prosthetic leg. Very cool! What would you do differently?: More bricks in training! Post race
Event comments: I just had a really great time with my friends and family. I smiled for the rest of the day! :D A special shout-out to all the awesome volunteers who made the race a huge success. Last updated: 2009-04-06 12:00 AM

Went with friends to the race at 5 am. It is just 5 minutes to the race from our houses. Lucky we went when we did. It became a traffic nightmare by 6 am. They even had to delay the start to allow time for all athletes to get to the race!
Got to my area. We were required to rack our bikes the day before so I just had to set up my stuff. I got REALLY lucky and was assigned a spot right on the end. It was very easy to find and I had lots of room. We just wandered around, saw friends, and prepared mentally until the race started.
