![]() Swim
Comments: By far my worst swim ever! The lanes are narrow, and I clipped shoulders with someone in the first 100 yards. After that, I became way too focused on where everyone else was, breaststroking to see ahead, and what I saw wasn't pretty. The person in front of me at 150 yards had been passed by several people, and I think when I met up with him at the wall, he was just in survival mode--not letting me pass. At the next wall, I thought he gave me the go-ahead to go, but then pushed off at the same time as I did. I had to stop and back paddle to get behind him. I really don't think he was being aggressive or mean about it, though, just trying to get done. What would you do differently?: Not being so concerned about a collision? Swim along and hope for the best, I guess. I know my 100-yard time was right on target. I guess the bright side to going so slow in the swim is that I didn't feel at all tired as I exited the pool. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: The run from the swim exit was kind of long, so I opted to slip on my flip flops. Not so easy to run in, but it beats getting tiny pebbles in the feet. What would you do differently?: Maybe consider going without the socks. I like my socks, though. I'm a bit of a tenderfoot. ![]() Bike
Comments: Felt great on the bike! What would you do differently?: Just keep training and getting used to my new bike. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Wasted a bit of time grabbing my Garmin off the bike. What would you do differently?: Get off the bike more fluidly. Leave the Garmin on the bike. ![]() Run
Comments: I'm still a work in progress when it comes to running. I felt pretty good out there, but my time is definitely slower than my last few weeks of workout times, including bike/run brick workouts, which had me much closer to 11min/mile. It was starting to get hot out there, and I was definitely feeling it in the last mile or so. The weather has been fairly cool the past month or so, so most of my training runs were in cooler temps. What would you do differently?: Just keep running. And try to cope better with the heat. ![]() Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Traffic jam in the pool. Rising temps toward the end of the run. Event comments: This is a very fun and well-run event. The volunteers were great and really gave me the pick-me-up I needed toward the end of the run. Because this was my very first race of any kind EVER last year, I think the WAC Sprint Tri will forever hold a special place in my heart. Last updated: 2009-04-06 12:00 AM

Bought a coffee on the way to the race. Not sure I would need it or should drink it, but my start time was more than an hour and a half away, so I drank most of it.
Not much. A couple of trips back to the car and milling about by the pool waiting for start time. Last year I swam a few laps, but then waiting in the chilly air for more than an hour undid any warmup that gave me, so I opted not to do that this year.
