Swim
Comments: I did a lot better on my swim than I expected. I took the advice of something I read, where it said, if you don't feel confident about your swimming or you're nervous to hang back or on the outskirts of your "wave". So I did that...I was as far back as I could get, and as far left as I could get. Then the canon went off and I ran in the ocean...so nervous and anxious. At this point all my training went out the window and it was all about survival. As the swim got going...after the "running in the water"....I felt a lot better and I started notice myself passing other people and watching people take mini-breaks during the swim. What would you do differently?: I would've pushed it a lot harder than I did, and be more confident in my swimming (confident not cocky)...I wouldn't jump to the front of the line or anything. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: next time I would get a triathlete suit. I was wearing triathlete shorts which helped out a lot, but putting on my bike shirt, was more work than it should've been. Bike
Comments: As soon as I get on my bike...I notice my computer isn't working...that really sucked. I had no idea at what pace I was riding couldn't tell what my time was or avg speed. That was upsetting because I was going only as fast as I wanted to...and not really keeping up a pace. What would you do differently?: Make sure my computer works.... Upgrade some things on my bike ...(still unsure if the triathlete bars make a huge difference, although I'm sure they have to, why would everyone else have it?) Hydrate myself more on the bike. I found it tough trying to stay hydrated and full of energy while biking. Transition 2
Comments: My transition was no good What would you do differently?: I would take strap off my shoes while still on the bike...jump off and run the rest of the way barefoot with my bike. Run
Comments: I really didn't want to do the run...I was really de-hydrated and didn't feel good going into it at all. The run is where I feel my pace slowed down. On the upside...I never stopped, I noticed a few people started walking during the run on the sand portion. What would you do differently?: take some energy gels during the transition...so I could have some more energy during the run. Post race
Event comments: I really was impressed with all the preperation that must've taken place in order for this race to go as smooth as it did.(at least from my point of view) Last updated: 2009-04-07 12:00 AM

I slept pretty good the night before (suprisingly)...for my first triathlon. I was pretty nervous..laid out transition area went over my check list and mentally prepared.
The morning of I ate a couple bananas and had a yogurt. At this point I was just trying not to be late. When I got there the nerves really set in. Didn't really do too much stretching (not as much as I should have), but was more preparing myself mentally. Strangely enough I do that by thinking about classical music.
