Swim
Comments: Took an easy slow swim to make sure I didn't waste too much energy prior to the bike. Ended up working out pretty well since the swim was very comfortable. What would you do differently?: In retrospect, I may have swam too slow. I probably dropped a few spots that I didn't have to. Transition 1
Comments: Fairly long run from swim exit to transition area. Had a little trouble getting on the bike due to conjestion at the mount line. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Bike felt very comfortable. Could've gone much faster but I wanted to save my legs some for the run. Also, not being able to stay in the gear I wanted due to mechanical problems was very irritating. I could come out of the saddle on climbs nor ride in the small chainring at all. What would you do differently?: Not sure. I rode the Duke Half Iron course the day before and I didn't have the mechanical problems. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Very good run for me. Triathlon PR. I tucked in behind a guy in my age group running a fast pace for the first mile. We got to some small inclines and I pushed past him and many other people since I am fairly strong on hills. Between miles 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 I slacked off my desired pace a little due to passing alot of traffic on a narrow path and not having a good person to pace off of. After exiting the "path" portion of the run, we come back into the main parking via 2 back-to-back curves. As I passed someone on the first curve, the guy I used to pace me at the beginning of the run gave a fantastic kick and took off past me. It was a great move because it took me a moment to regroup and try to chase him down. I was a split second too late as he finished just ahead of me. It was great to have that racing effect and not crossing alone. What would you do differently?: Pace better in the middle of the run. Post race
Warm down: Drank gatorade and chatted with some friends. Event comments: Very fun, will most likely do it again next year. Only bummer was the parking situation but I understand I couldn't have been helped. Other than that, I enjoyed the race. Last updated: 2009-04-07 12:00 AM

Woke up and drove to Harris Lake. Ate a peanut butter and honey sandwich on the way. Got transition setup, body marked, scoped out the swim entry and exit. Ate some GU Chomps.
Rode the bike to the park entry and back. Discovered that my rear derailleur was not shifting properly. Line at bike mechanic was long and didn't feel like waiting.
