Pre-race routine:

Got up around 5am and choked down a clif bar and some water. Had a shower and loaded up the truck.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warm up here. I just swam out about 50 meters to visit natures bathroom and back into shore.
Swim
  • 18m 10s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt great during this swim. The water temp was perfect, almost had to remind myself that I was in a race it was so enjoyable. I really think I could have pushed myself harder I was just pretty amazed at how good I felt and was trying not to lay it all out in the swim.
What would you do differently?:

I really think next time I will push a bit harder in the swim. I really couldn't find a good drafting partner so maybe next time I will look a bit harder. Also I noticed that when I sight I tend to take a bigger kick which may affect my over all drag.
Transition 1
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

Need to work on the flying mount still. Gonna get that worked out someday.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, except working on the mount
Bike
  • 53m 37s
  • 18.2 miles
  • 20.37 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was great. I was keeping up with my nutrition and hydration. The roads were very smooth and fast. I started out very easy to warm up the legs, usually I hit it very hard out of transition and pay for it later. After I warmed up all was well. I really feel as though I had more to give on this bike ride. Almost ate shit half way through, there is a new bridge with seams that run parallel to the bike tires. I came out to the left to pass a guy and landed straight into one. "Oh Shit" I said calmly and just rode it out. The tires were squealing and I was praying. Some how I got out of that one unscathed. Turned to the guy next to me, "That was a close one" Phew!
What would you do differently?:

I really think I will hit this harder next time. I am so used to going out to hard on the bike and blowing up on the run. I have kind of psyched myself out of pushing hard on the bike. If my fitness it like this next next year, I am gonna hit it harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

I got out of my shoes about a mile too early. Had enough time to think about how early I got out of my shoes like twice before the dismount line. Also in transition I missed my first attempt at hanging up the bike. My feet where a bit sandy from the jog through transition. Decided to not take a GU for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Gotta be more patient with my shoe removal. Should really get out of this habit of figuring out my transition plan "in" transition. Also need to figure out a better way of cleaning off the feet.
Run
  • 24m 46s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

I have never run this fast in my life. The first miles was hard and I couldn't catch my breath. Weird my body felt like I can do this, but I couldn't get my breathing to settle down. I just pushed through and toward the halfway point I just said screw it. If it is gonna hurt, it is just gonna hurt. I actually took on too much water and had to walk once cause I splashed water down my throat. Skipped the last water stop but grabbed a towel. Not because it was hot ro i needed it, mainly just because it was there.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. It was a good run and I crushed my last time.
Post race
Warm down:

What is a warm-down?

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I crushed this race. Bested my previous time by 9min. My mind was the only thing that held me back, which is probably what kept me racing within my limits.

Event comments:

I love this race. I will be back. The race is very well organized and the packet alone is enough of a reason for me to come back.
