Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:40, at some toast with jam and a banana, drank 1 cup OJ. Sipped some water. Got to race site at 5:10. Picked up race packet, set up transition.
Event warmup:

Went for a 1 mile WU jog (about 9 min). 10 min WU bike (about 3 miles in the parking lot). .4 mile swim down the beach to the race start.
Swim
  • 09m 15s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt good. Strong and smooth. I was in the second wave, and unfortunately started running into the wave in front of me by the first buoy! Luckily I was able to navigate through the crowds pretty easily. Buoys were easy to spot as was the swim finish. Amazed at how many people I passed who were walking waist deep in the water on their way to shore.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

Could have saved a few seconds with keeping my shoes on the bike, but preferred to play it safe instead. Wetsuit came off very easily :)
What would you do differently?:

Bike
  • 32m 36s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 23.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Fastest female bike split :) I felt nice and comfortable on this ride and pushed just enough on the hills. No guys passed me and I passed a lot of them...one seemed a little ticked. Cornering and turns could have been executed better. Also, had to go around a lot of people on the second loop.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Time was about 3 min faster than 2 years ago.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

Pretty good T2. Could have been a touch faster. Got stuck going into transition behind someone.
What would you do differently?:

Take my shoes off on the bike.
Run
  • 21m 19s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the run. My first sub 7 min split! Was not passed by too many guys on the course and even passed a few. One of them was Rudy who said "You're doing great pumpkin!" Made me laugh for at least the next mile! I think only my Dad has ever called me that!
What would you do differently?:

I think I could have upped the tempo slightly. I was not completely spent at the end of the race. Best 5K time ever! Course PR by about 3 min!
Post race
Warm down:

about a 1/2 mile jog

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much

Event comments:
