Pre-race routine:

Woke up early, met my brother-in-law and his family and we all headed out to the event. Parked, hit the TA...timing chip, then body marking. We had to bus to the swim start. There were 1019 contestants overall, so there were several buses.

Some stretching, that was about it.

First triathlon, just getting used to the whole thing.
What would you do differently?:

Swim the course once or twice before the event. Practice sighting a little more.

Comments:

Didn't wear a wetsuit, so that was good. Had to put on bike shoes, helmet, sunglasses. Didn't wear gloves or socks. I am pretty happy with the T1 time.

18th of 95 for age group rank on T1.
What would you do differently?:

Get tri shoes, practice bare foot start.

Comments:

Good ride. I rode a converted road bike that I have been training on. I was comfortable and felt good throughout the race.

There was a lot of rough road, at one point (early in the ride) I hit several repaired areas in a row, then went to some very rough pavement...it slowed me enough that I thought I had a flat in the rear tire. I stopped to check on that, though for less than 30 seconds. I did have to get out of the saddle to get back up to speed, though.
What would you do differently?:

Felt good. More time in the saddle! I have just gotten a triathlon specific frame and plan on building that. I feel like that and the additional training will help increase my performance here.

Mount/dismount line pretty far from TA. I had not practiced pulling my feet out of my shoes ahead of time, so I didn't try it today, though I was tempted! I could have saved some time here just because of that. I also put socks on for this run, I won't do that again in a sprint. Overall, not too bad for my first event, though.

63rd of 95 for my age group on T2.
What would you do differently?:

Practice coming out of shoes before mount line, no socks for sprint distance runs.

I hate running, lol. I used to be able to do 3 miles in 17:54. That was a long time ago. I am running more, and honestly I was happy with 3 10 min/miles after the swim and bike. This is my first event and I really just needed to get a feel for it.
What would you do differently?:

Run more...that's the only way that will improve.

Warm down:

Some walking, stretching, hydration. Nothing very techinical at all.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My recent start at training. I have been really doing next to nothing until mid-late March of this year. Diet and training have helped a lot and will continue to improve!

Event comments:

Awesome first race! I didn't stay around for the post-race, so I can't really rate that. There is not overall times broken down by age group, so I don't have those ranks to put in my report. I can't wait to do some more!
