Pre-race routine:

had my peanut butter toast and 1/2 banana. got there early and stayed out of the pre race stress of others. watched the sunrise on the beach with my husband and my ipod. was probably too relaxed at the start.
Event warmup:

just swam, like always. realized it was going to be hard to site the buoy with the chop on the water and looking into the sun.
Swim
  • 10m 31s
  • 425 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

not fall in a hole, listen for the gun better and have not gone so easy because I was so concerned on sighting.
Transition 1
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

theres a good run to T1 and looks like I did it the fastest. glad I was aggressive on the transitions, it makes a difference.
Bike
  • 35m 26s
  • 14 miles
  • 23.71 mile/hr
Comments:

Had the bike of my life!! I decided to spin up the bridge rather than mashing it out to practice for IMCDA and felt great and was still passing people doing that. Went aggressive on the downhills and thats how I caught the first female. Stayed in the lead comfortably then got passed by another female. I decided to keep behind her as I was doing 24 ez and just keep it there and stay comfortable and pass her at a more strategic point... until... another female past me and then the three of us got clogged up with a bunch of men. the three of us all kept passing each other back and forth and the men weren't dropping back after passes. obnoxious since we were trying to get out of that stuck position so we weren't drafting. I decided to push it in the last 1/2 mile to be first into T2 because after a bike as good as this one I wanted to be the first female into T2. First time ever doing that!!!
What would you do differently?:

not too much. had a great ride, maybe I should have overtook jc right away so the other female didn't catch us.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Run
  • 21m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

when the eventual female winner past me in the first 1/4 mile I let her go. she is an extremely fast runner and I really let her reputation beat me. I needed to calm down my breathing at first but I could have run faster than this, I have in the past. I should have pushed it but who knows, I think I was at my limit after that ride anyhow.
What would you do differently?:

not let people's reputations beat me. run harder.
Post race
Warm down:

2.5 hour ride post race, ironman training afterall :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swim conditions, my head.

Event comments:

one of my favorite races around here! its my goal to win this one sooner or later and I know I will. sprints are tough for me so I'll have to do more running speedwork and become a faster runner

Swimming
00:10:31 | 425 yards | 02m 28s / 100yards
Age Group: 0/
Overall: 3/400
Performance: Below average
Suit: hammer shimmel and bottoms
Course: point to point as always. I should have been able to make more time here but I just kind of cruised. Tripped and fell in a hole on the way in and got behind. No one was on course and I was frustrated so I made it a point to take a few breaststrokes and get my line right. everyone was pushing into me and getting dragged inside until the first buoy then everyone was way outside the buoys so I was by my lonesome on the correct line... but with on one to push me. thus cruise mode. spent more time sighting than swimming.... even with all that, there's no way that was 400 yards. I couldn't swim a 2:30 per 100 pace if I tried. The swims at this race are usually way off but that's ok.
