Swim
Comments: I caught a break this year since the person swimming before me didn't show up. So instead of the usual 10 seconds between me and the person in front of me, today it was 20 seconds. This was nice then I didn't have to worry about swimming up their back. I wasn't caught by anyone from behind so I felt good about that. What would you do differently?: I think I swam as well as I could. Transition 1
Comments: A little slow here. I like to wear socks so that's always fun to put on with wet feet. The only place I got stuck was getting my race belt on. This was my first time using one and I thought I had it laid out correctly. But it still managed to get twisted and I had to redo it. What would you do differently?: Work on getting my belt on correctly the first time Bike
Comments: It was a beautiful day for a ride through Lancaster farmland. Being Sunday morning there was a lot of Amish buggies out on the course (actually got stuck behind one on a blind turn and was picturing myself getting disqualified from the race for drafting a buggy). I passed a lot of people and was only passed by three others...all had aero helmets and bars so I didn't feel too ashamed. Had great stamina through the ride. What would you do differently?: Need to find different energy food and drink. The hills and distance took so much out of my legs that they were completely depleted when I started running. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was good. No mess ups. Having the new elastic laces in my running shoes made it easy to get them on and get going again. What would you do differently?: Happy with my transition Run
Comments: This has always been a struggle for me. Today was no different. My stamina felt great, however I had nothing left in my legs. They were gone, jelly, and no amount of mental coaching was bringing them back. I had to keep a very slow pace unfortunately. What would you do differently?: LOTS of room for improvement here. For starters, I need to get off the bike without depleted muscles. Post race
Warm down: Last year, this was the first Tri I had ever competed in and I was completely wasted when I crossed the line. This year, I felt surprisingly good. My wife did comment that I didn't look like I was going to die this year like I did last. And walking around after the race, I actually feel like a triathlete - a feeling I hadn't had at any of the races I did last year. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wrong food to replenish muscles Event comments: I really really enjoyed myself at this race. I improved a whole lot over my performance from last year. The weather was simply perfect. The race was well organized and ran flawlessly. I had been training all winter in anticipation for it and it didn't disappoint! Last updated: 2009-04-10 12:00 AM
